The Flash’s newest trailer is on the way but many aspects of the film are still a mystery. We haven’t seen the villain yet, although it’s clear it will be a variant of Barry Allen played by Ezra Miller. There will be at least two of those and could be more as shots of some new merchandise appear to indicate.

This merch in question is the tie-in Funko POP line that includes mockups of Barry variants as well as figures of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, two Batmans, Iris West, and General Zod. A picture shared on Twitter by The Hollywood Handle shows all of them in a first look and a strange, ominous being dubbed “Dark Flash.”

Not seen up to this point, Dark Flash has been a suspected factor in the plot for a while. Leaks from test screenings told of a variant of Barry that’s been traveling back and forth through time in order to create the perfect universe. By the looks of him, primarily his color scheme, his motives can’t be entirely aboveboard.

Concept fan art by Yousef Defenshi that The Flash Film News shared to Twitter too gives off vibes of how nefarious Dark Flash really is. The post also contains a cryptic spoiler with sinister implications, if true. Dark Flash’s armor, it says, “is made out of Kryptonian material.” But where did this material come from?

ComicBookMovie has a theory and it’s a doozy that ties into the premature death of Superman which is a reported plot point. They posit Dark Flash’s suit is made from the ship that brings Kal-El to Earth— implying that Barry’s evil doppelganger has a hand in the execution of the infant Kal. It’s Zod, though, who ultimately kills the super-tot.

Barry’s evil twin then claims the material to make his suit through either telekinesis or Speed Force energy — similar to the New 52 version of Reverse-Flash who, no joke, grafted parts of a monorail to himself. Dark Flash’s treachery naturally leads to the insertion of Supergirl (Sasha Calle) into the plot although there is a caveat.

Reshoots changed a great deal of Flash’s narrative so there is a good chance this potential twist for the Dark Flash and what is found in the Funko Pops are not representative of anything in the final film. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman cameo was reported prior to this as cut along with Henry Cavill’s, and Cavill is not pegged for a comeback in the DCU and Gadot’s role is uncertain.

The same can be said for Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton who both reprise their iterations of Batman for what is liable to be the last time. Affleck’s cameo that was arranged to replace Keaton in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is off and the latter admitted a few months ago he has no idea if he will get to play his Dark Knight again.
