A controversial website intended to reveal which Twitch streamers had played Hogwarts Legacy has gone offline just 24 hours after launch.

Pro-transgender activists had demanded a boycott of J. K. Rowling and her works ever since 2020. At the time she explained biological sex is real, and that using terms in an attempt to avoid offense such as “menstruating person” were offensive to women

As such, activists pushed for a boycott of Hogwarts Legacy. Despite attempts to perpetuate the game was antisemetic or voice actors were anti-transgender, it seemed to have no effect. The game was regularly in high positions on Steam’s weekly global top seller charts based on pre-orders alone, and most recently the game broke Twitch’s record for the most live viewers for a single player game.

Unfortunately, it seemed that activists turned to harassment instead. Notable cases include one streamer being on the edge of tears, while one Vtuber cancelled plans to stream Hogwarts Legacy. The latter is only suspected to have suffered  harassment

These efforts were seemingly aided by one website and person in particular. Composer and broadcast engineer Sam Gibbs proudly announced his new website, letting anyone track which Twitch streamers had played the game. “Introducing Have They Streamed That Wizard Game – find out if anyone you follow on twitch has streamed THAT new wizard game.”

“For people who are saying you should just let people play whatever games they want, they are being awfully vocal about a tool that lets people see what they’ve played…” Gibbs justified. He also highlighted Twitch’s “All Categories” webpage, seemingly to indicate his website was only showing information that was already publicly available.

There is a slight irony in Gibbs refusing to use the game’s name, much like Voldemort. “He-who-shall-not-be-named” was used out of fear in the Wizarding World, along with a curse where any speaking his name would become known to his followers.

The website also allowed users to “Login with Twitch to check if anyone you follow has played THAT wizard game.”

At this time of writing however, the website is down. It only displays the text “This service has been suspended by its owner.” Based on coverage from Dexerto, it seems the website was shut down around February 7th, meaning the website was up for less than 24 hours.

It seems there was nigh-total condemnation of Gibbs website, with discourse around it aiding those seeking to harass streamers. One Twitter user even highlighted the website to UK police, albeit via Twitter.

Gibbs himself has also had no Twitter activity since sharing the website on February 6th- barring liking a single tweet from a Twitter user made on the 7th.

“I haven’t seen anyone getting doxxed or harassed over playing Hogwarts Legacy,” @mollymaecosplay claimed. “I, and my moderators, however, got harassed & obsessed over by rabid Harry Potter fans for saying we wouldn’t be playing it. Every single tweet I post about not playing it they come & screech at me.”

This would seemingly indicate Gibbs believed, or wanted to give the impression, he was oblivious to any harassment occurring. In any case, only those who follow Gibbs on Twitter can reply to his Twitter thread showcasing his now defunct website.

YouTuber A Drink With Crazy discussed the website and outcry in his recent video, noting that activists are crusading against Rowling despite her being “a leftist,” and deeming them and “woke” individuals as “the forth great religion.” He also proposed that transgender people don’t wish to be seen or treated as men or women, but as transgender — it’s own category.

Though Drink With Crazy conceded that it was acceptable but pointless if the website’s true intent was merely for Twitch users to unfollow those who streamed Hogwarts Legacy, “we know how the internet works,” and  that’s why I find this disingenuous. People on the internet are insane.”

Agreeing that the boycott had grown ridiculous, and believed that the website was used to help dogpile streamers to the point of causing a breakdown. He also seemed to consider the activists left wing, and deeply insidious.

“Remember: Left only responds to one thing. And it’s the one thing they commit upon people the most, and it’s what drives them insane. The left wants violence,” Drink with Crazy proposed. “They want duplicitousness, they want to hurt people and cause harm.”

Drink With Crazy continued to hammer the point.

“That’s why they can’t just not follow things, that’s why they can’t just say ‘hey, you’re a bad person, leave us alone.’ That’s why they go and they have to get you fired, they have to get you desperate, they have to make you bow-down in front of them, and they have to destroy you emotionally. They have to wreck you financially.”

“That’s the purpose the left want, that’s their goal in life, with the way that this twisted version is, because they are the church,” Drink With Crazy elaborated, stating “You cannot say anything bad about the church,” and explaining why this was why he dubbed left-wing supports “the forth great religion,” with their “penance” being the harm inflicted on others who are not in “lockstep.”

Drink With Crazy then advised those who streamed Hogwarts Legacy to do it twice that day. He fully expected the activists’ actions to backfire so dramatically that it will “drag people who were otherwise not involved in the culture war, or into paying attention to the culture war, to get dragged in and wonder ‘what in the world is going on?!'”

“The vitriol that they are spewing is something that is detrimental to their cause, and I hope it stays detrimental to their cause. I hope this wakes a lot of people up, and I hope people stand firm, and you stream this game, until they yell so loud, their voices go out. Their mental voices,” Drink With Crazy clarified.

“I want them to yell so loud, they are so fatigued, they can’t yell anymore. Frustrate them, until they fall asleep. And hopefully they will,” he suggested.
