Momoa previously described his character, Dante, as androgynous back in August 2022 while promoting his Apple TV+ series See.

He told Variety, “I’m the bad guy so it’s fun. I get to be the bad guy finally. I’ve been the good guy for a while.”

When asked how much fun it is to be the bad guy, he said, “It’s the best. I love it. And then he’s very sadistic and androgynous. And he’s a bit of a peacock.”

Momoa then elaborated on what he meant by androgynous, “He’s got a lot of issues, this guy. He’s definitely got some daddy issues because someone…” He then cut himself off saying, “See, I’m giving away too much. You’re good.”

Leterrier would provide more details on Momoa’s villain while speaking with Variety at party for the film’s trailer premiere.

When asked to provide more details about the character specifically his description as androgynous, Letterier said, “You were the interviewer that got it out of him. Yes. Well, he has a much ruder approach to the character when he’s talking to me about it.”

He then went on to provide more details about the character, “He’s everything that you expect from a Jason Momoa creation. He’s 1000% Momoa. He’s pure color. Pure sound. There’s a smell to him. And he’s loud and he’s chaotic.”

When asked how evil his character is, Leterrier answered, “Beyond. Beyond evil. Evil and uncontrollable. That’s what’s most dangerous. You don’t know what he’s going to do.”

“And he’s loving it,” he emphasized. “Loving it and he’s having a lot of fun. Both the character and the actor.”

According to the film’s official synopsis Momoa plays the son of deceased Fast Five villain and drug kingpin Hernan Reyes, who is now out for revenge to make Dom and his crew pay for the death of his father.

The synopsis reads, “Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.”

The synopsis continues, “In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.”

“Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance,” it concludes.
