‘The Boys’ Showrunner Eric Kripke Claims Homelander Murdering Protestor Was Inspired By Donald Trump

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, who has made it abundantly clear his show is an allegory on modern day American politics in the past, recently confirmed Homelander murdering a protestor in the Season 3 finale was inspired by President Donald Trump.

Speaking with Variety, Kripke was asked about a scene where Homelander introduces his son to a raucous crowd holding signs that read, “Keep America Safe”, “American Safety First”, and “God, Guns & Homelander.” They are also shown wearing swastikas and SS bolts. One protestor even shoves down a NNC cameraman before Homelander arrives to introduce them to his son.

After introducing his son, a protestor wearing a “Believe Starlight” shirt yells at Homelander, “F*** you, fascist.” The protestor then throws some kind of drink that hits Homelander’s son. In response, Homelander kills him with his eye beams.

After killing the protestor the crowd erupts in cheers for Homelander and his son even smirks at the crowd’s reaction.

Kripke commented on the scene revealing its inspiration was from Donald Trump, “It’s not great. It’s just a notion taken to the extreme that the more horrible public leaders act, the more fans they seem to rack up. And there’s always that expression that Trump can shoot a guy on Fifth Avenue and wouldn’t lose any fans. And so we said, “Let’s do that. Let’s have Homelander kill a guy on Fifth Avenue and see what the reaction is.” And it’s just true.”

He elaborated, “It’s like that campaign video of the guy actively saying he’s going to hunt down people with his semi-automatic and kicking open private residences to hunt them down — and people cheer for that now. So for us, it was just sadly, not that far off from what would actually happen.”

Speaking specifically to Homelander’s son, Ryan, Kripke added, “And then Ryan. Ryan is a really important piece of the story because he’s half Becca, half Homelander. If Butcher can figure out how to get his shit together and get the kid back, that could be the single best weapon they have against Homelander.”

“But vice versa. If Homelander wins the kid over, that’s apocalyptic because then there’s two Homelanders. It’s like a child drama with apocalyptic stakes. It’s like Kramer vs. Kramer meets Avengers: Endgame. So that will be a really rich story moving forward,” he asserted.

Kripke didn’t stop at Donald Trump references. He also indicated that Robert Singer and Victoria Neuman’s presidential ticket is an allegory to Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

When asked how Butcher will try and win Ryan over while also plotting to kill Neuman, Kripke said, “Yeah, it’s probably going to be a slam dunk. They’re up against the DeSantis ticket. That’s part of the fun of getting into Season 4, which we’re just figuring out for this, but he’s got a crazy ticking clock. He’s got so much to do that he hasn’t done. And everything that he’s tried to do up to this point has exploded in the most horrible way.”

“What we find fascinating about the question we’re asking about Butcher is, is he self-aware enough to realize that he’s causing his own misfortune? Is he self-aware enough to actually see if he can change? Those are some of the interesting conversations we’re starting to have for Season 4,” he concluded.

Kripke has made his disdain for Republicans especially those supporting President Donald Trump and the Make America Great Again movement well-known.

During an acceptance speech at the 2022 Saturn Awards, Kripke said, “The message of The Boys is, in the real world, anyone who stands in front of you and says they’re here to save you is f***ing lying and trying to sell you something.”

Ironically, he then added, “We all have responsibility to save each other, taking care of the people next to you and a thousand boring unremarkable moments everyday. And that is how the world gets saved.”

After giving a tribute to The Boy’s deceased production designer Arv Grewal, he encouraged viewers, “Please vote, f*** MAGA, and have a great night.”

Back in 2020 while speaking with ScreenRant Kripke claimed “white dudes standing next to you” are “the most dangerous people.”

He said, “We were really interested in exploring the idea of authority figures getting the public really riled up with xenophobia and racism, but ultimately the most dangerous people are the white dudes standing next to you. We wanted to reflect that story. So, the supervillains are, in a way, a misdirect.”
