In their latest blog post, Bandai Namco explains the story of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. While a new energy source dubbed “Coral” from planet Rubicon 3 had high promise for humanity, it instead unleashed a catastrophe. Not only was the planet engulfed in fire and storms, but so were surrounding stars, turning it into the Burning Star System.

Almost 50 years later, and with Rubicon 3 cordoned off, Coral has been detected again. With everyone from corporations to resistance groups fighting over it, the player is an independent mercenary sent into the thick of their conflict.

From the gameplay trailer, it seems the player is on a tight leash — as they may be under a “cerebral Coral control device.” It seems even the player’s employer and handler has little respect for “Augmented Human C4-621,” but their phenomenal piloting skills and firepower may be the only thing that can take on the opposing forces of Rubicon.

The official website promises “fast-paced, omni-directional battles” where players can use ground and sky to their advantage in massive stages, while facing off against swarms of foes, or titanic bosses. Players can also freely customize their loadout and weapons on their Armored Core between missions, radically changing their playstyle as needed.
