DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters is taking shape slowly but surely. It won’t begin in earnest until 2025, so there are no tenable stakes when it comes to Blue Beetle or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The Flash might weasel out of irrelevance and into the new continuity by providing a way to reset everything, but that makes just one.

The rest of Chapter 1’s installments will start fresh and have little, if anything, to do with this year’s releases. Thanks to James Gunn’s announcement in January, we know what’s coming in the slate and what we can expect first. Naturally, Superman: Legacy, which kicks it all off, takes precedence and Gunn is writing and directing it.

At the same time, he is working on the Creature Commandos animated series, where the continuity will overlap with live-action, and Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold has confirmed he will be handling Swamp Thing’s return to the big screen. Beyond that, with a few exceptions, the choices are to wait and see or rely on the Internet to fill in the blanks.

The DC Studios head was shown a screenshot that listed Lobo, Animal Man, Justice League: New Frontier, Superman vs The Authority, and Mr. Terrific projects as well as Peacemaker S2. Gunn replied with a simple “No,” to whether or not the leak was true. Each of the items has been rumored for a film or series in the past year.

After the same Twitter user pointed out Peacemaker had been renewed for a second season, Gunn clarified, “There’s no truth to all of those things being in Chapter 1, it’s totally made up. [Peacemaker Season 2] is coming out after Legacy.”

Gunn isn’t quite ahead of the online speculation, but he is keeping his social media open and active to clear the air as the rumors and supposed news come at him. Recently, for instance, he denied Ron Perlman will have a part among the Commandos and following that, Gunn likewise debunked a rumor that Aaron Paul landed the role of Booster Gold.

According to an alleged casting leak, the Breaking Bad star was going to lead the time-traveler’s HBO Max series and cameo in Blue Beetle to tease their buddy-cop dynamic. There’s also talk of an unidentified showrunner but Gunn cuts these assertions off at the pass. He tweeted they are far from true and he’s had no conversations with Paul.

“Zero truth to that. I like Aaron a lot personally and professionally. But we’ve never discussed this. And the rest of it is also 100% made up,” the head of DC Studios stated.

We have to wait longer for news on Booster Gold then, but at least we can speak on it affirmatively. The same can’t be said for the other apocryphal projects mooted by social media and wannabe leakers.
