In the interview, as reported by Games Radar, Blizzard’s Associate Game Director, Joe Piepiora confirmed that Diablo IV will have an end and isn’t meant to become an endless grind after level 100. Eventually, after a lot of work, the story will come to a close.

For fans who are looking forward to playing the game forever with an endless grind, this may be bad news, but don’t worry. The true end of Diablo IV is way off from the moment you hit level 100. However, there will be a conclusion in the form of a final boss fight.

“[Diablo IV] is not intended to be played forever.” says Piepiora, “So there are creatures that you will continue to fight at higher and higher difficulties [beyond the level 100 cap], but this is content where you’ll be kind of pushing yourself to see how far you can take your build, rather than trying to reach some endless grind of rewards as time goes on beyond level 100.”

While not being specific, Pieporia also said that you will eventually get to a point where you’ve peaked at a maximum power level and the highest level of gear. You’ll be able to reroll and respec your stats as you see fit and build your proper character build.

It’s at this point you should take on the true final boss of the game.

“At level 100, we do have a pinnacle boss encounter we want players to engage with that’s been balanced so that it’s extraordinarily, extraordinarily challenging” says Pieporia.

This final boss has been designed around players fully understanding their character builds and having a good set of gear to back themselves up. Which is why Pieporia doesn’t recommend tackling the boss immediately at level 100.

Pieporia explained, “Players that reach level 100 are going to have an extremely difficult time on this boss encounter. And the expectation is that you take your class, you understand your build, you’ve maximized everything that you possibly can about it, and you really have learned encountered very well. And that’s going to be the way that you can maybe take it down.”

As of now, the final boss has not been fully revealed, but it exciting news to learn that there is something to let players put a lynch pin in their journey at the end of the road.

Pieporia detailed, “That’s the point, is to say, ‘I have managed to get an extremely powerful character build together. This is my capstone, this is the goal that I have for myself within like a period of time after I’ve reached level 100’. You know, that’s the aspirational piece, we want players to chase. There’s cosmetic things, there’s other rewards you can get from that encounter. But it’s not about getting more gear at that point. Like that’s kind of like the point of getting the gear is to fight that that particular boss.”

If you are feeling discouraged that there is an ending to Diablo IV, don’t worry. Players can still spend their days fighting in the ruthless PvP in the Fields of Hatred.
