The Weekly Top 5 – October 21, 2015
It’s a new week and thus a new Top 5! Here are our top choices. Tell us what yours are in the comments below.
Justin Wright
1. Batman and Robin: Eternal #3
Why: I’m going to be following this weekly through to the end. I’m really happy to see Dick Grayson brought back into the bat-fold.
2. Shutter #16
Why: Headless Alarm Clock-Cat sitting on a crumbling throne on another stunning cover by Leila Del Luca is reason enough for me.
3. Teen Titans Go #12
Why: If you enjoy the irreverent take on this supergroup from Cartoon Network, this book always delivers. The kids and I will be reading this for bedtime.
4. Memetic TPB
Why: Have you seen the picture of the happy sloth I sent you? This 3 issue mini proves that James Tynion IV will be working in comics for quite some time.
5. Clean Room #1
Why: As part of a slew of new Vertigo imprint titles, Gail Simone is writing this psychological horror story. Should be perfect for an October chill.
Jonathan Ngo
1. Astonishing Ant-Man #1
Why: The previous run of Ant-Man was pretty great and here’s the same creative team for a new run, you can expect them to get things right.
2. Secret Wars: Agents of Atlas
Why: It’s been so long since we’ve seen the Agents of ATLAS, maybe 4 years? What’s up with that? It’s a 50s team with a goddess, an alien, a robot, and a talking gorilla, of course we want them back!!
3. Usagi Yojimbo #149
Why: Stan Sakai continues to bring his masterful storytelling in what is one of the best indie comics of the last few decades. Miyamoto Usagi have been recently back after a 3 years break, so let’s show this book some love!
4. Karnak #1
Why: Because it’s Warren Ellis taking on a new #1 not long after putting Moon Knight back on the map. Will he be able to do the same here? I sure want to find out.
5. Amazing Spider-Man #2
Why: Dan Slott is criticized by many but I love the current status-quo on ASM. Peter Parker has had enough years being a loser. He’s finally at the head of a big corporation and uses his brain for good. Let’s keep it up, I don’t want to see the loser teenager Mary Jane loving Parker for a long time.
John Trent
1. The Shield #1
Why: I’ve been waiting to check out this book since almost the beginning of the year alas there have been production delays, but finally it hits shelves this week! It will be interesting to see how a Daughter of the Revolution will interact with modern times.
2. Darth Vader #11
Why: The Star Wars books are pretty much the only thing I am pulling from Marvel and they have been quite enjoyable. I am excited to see whether or not Vader will remain loyal to Aphra or she will be sacrificed to protect himself.
3. Will Eisner’s The Spirit #4
Why: This has been a surprise stand out with fantastic artwork, lettering, and script writing. After last month’s reveal I am excited to see what happens with Ellen, Sammy, Ebony, and Commissioner Dolan!
4. Justice League #45
Why: Geoff Johns has crafted an epic story line and I am excited to see where he is going to take Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the league. Will they be able to survive the onslaught of Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor?
5. Danger Girl: Renegade #2
Why: The first issue was extremely refreshing with an Indiana Jones vibe with constant adventure. I hope Andy Hartnell and Stephen Molnar can keep it up in the follow-up issue!
