The Weekly Top 5 – October 28, 2015
These are the books we are looking forward to checking out this week! What’s on your Top 5?
Justin Wright
1. Art Ops #1
Why: A comic about the subjects of famous art coming to life. Art imitating life. Also, $2.99.
2. Spider Man 2099 #2
Why: I liked the direction of the first issue. Still dreading that new costume, though.
3. Revival #34
Why: The story has felt like its circling the drain; closing in on the end. Yet Image is promising a good jumping on point for new readers. I’m interested to see what the creative team has in store.
4. We Are Robin #5
Why: DC is doing a lot with Robins over the next couple of months. And so far the style of this series has been impeccable. Lee Bermejo continues to create and assemble an ensemble cast of cohorts.
5. Fight Club 2 #6
Why: I cannot talk about Fight Club 2.
Jonathan Ngo
1. Prez #5
Why: Prez is crazy and funny as hell, if you haven’t read it it’s highly recommended, the story of how a teenage girl become the new president of the USA in a dystopian future (the most realistic kind of dystopian future, the one where everybody is terribly dumb and everything sucks because of shit media)
2. Chew #51
Why: It’s been a few months since Chew came out and it’s unfortunately the start of the last 10 issues, Chew being planned since the beginning as a 60 issue series. I’m incredibly sad and frightened that such a wonderful comic book might come to an end, but I’ll be there for it.
3. Pastaways #7
Why: Matt Kindt have a certain talent for crazy science fiction with slightly terrible characters, and Pastaways is exactly that. It’s fun, unpredictable, and you have to appreciate the attention to every detail that have been put into this universe. It tackles a lot of crazy ideas, maybe even too much at some point, but it’s great.
4. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1
Why: I love Doreen Green and I was glad to see her have her own comic book. I’m not a big fan of the art style but the writing have been pretty much on point so far, and it’s a great jumping point for new readers since it’s a new #1 for a new Marvel.
5. Black Magick #1
Why: Greg Rucka is a great writer and this book seems like a great pick just before Halloween (strangely few Halloween specials this year, by the way, bit disappointing). I’ve always liked police procedurals with a dash of magic and horror, and it seems to be just that.
John Trent
1. Book of Death #4
Why: The conclusion to Valiant’s major event where we find out whether or not Tama and the Eternal Warrior will be able to prevent what what is written in the Book of the Geomancer! I also got my hands on this early and it’s good!
2. Black Hood #6
Why: This has been a fantastic crime drama with excellent character inspection. I look forward to what Duane Swierczynski has in store for Officer Hettinger. Did I also mention Howard Chaykin has taken over art duties?
3. Justice League Gods and Men: Batman #1
Why: Geoff Johns has put together a fantastic story arc fit for the movies. I’m really interested to see where he takes Batman and how he uses the Mobius chair to bring justice to Gotham.
4. Black Magick #1
Why: I’ve highly enjoyed Rucka’s work on Lazarus and a crime drama with magical elements sounds like something right up my alley.
5. Kanan: The Last Padawan #7
Why: I’ve highly enjoyed this series so far and this book looks to add even more to the exciting adventures we have already seen. Plus it will give us a different perspective on the Clone Wars!
