The Weekly Top 5 – January 20, 2016
It’s another week and here are the Top 5 books we are looking forward to picking up and reading this week. There are a ton of new number ones including Silver Surfer, Amazing Forest, American Monster, and Man Plus, but there are also some tried and true books such as Justice League and Rachel Rising. This week is shaping up to be one with plenty of great stories to tell! What books make your Top 5?
Jonathan Ngo
1. Amazing Forest #1
Why: I always liked anthologies, it’s usually the place where you will find the most original, daring, and imaginative stories, because you can do anything without any consequences. This one is from IDW, which is a nice change from their usual publications.
2. Pencil Head #1
Why: I love slice-of-life and autobiographies, and this one promises a lot of comic book industry secrets AND at least one dead stripper. Admit it, you want to read it for the dead stripper.
3. Silver Surfer #1
Why: A new number 1 for Slott and Allred’s gorgeous Silver Surfer. No it’s not perfect and I mostly read it for the art now but a new launch is an opportunity to be great again in terms of story, let’s give them a shot!
4. American Monster #1
Why: Brian Azzarello is bringing this one to After-Shock Comics. A publisher that still deserves much more attention than it currently gets. Azzarello writing a crime story is always something to be excited for so give it a try!
5. Rachel Rising #39
Why: If you haven’t been reading Rachel Rising, you are missing something amazing. Terry Moore’s highly addictive comic is consistently great and you will not be disappointed.

1. Imperium #12
Why: This is the conclusion of the Vine Imperative story arc. I’m really looking forward to seeing what is going to happen with LV-99, the Vine plantings, and Harada’s forces, not to mention the man himself. Can he survive a second attack from LV-99?
2. Man Plus #1
Why: I love a good dystopian and Man Plus looks to offer that plus it involves authoritarian technology with cyborg strike teams and examines the lines between man and machine. How does that not interest you?
3. Will Eisner’s The Spirit #7
Why: This book has been so strong for so long. I’m really looking forward to see how Wagner handles The Spirit’s relationship with Ellen as well as how he sets off to find clues about who was behind his imprisonment. It looks to be a great caper!
4. Justice League #48
Why: The Justice League and the Crime Syndicate are forced to team up in order to take down The Anti-Monitor. I’m looking forward to Jason Fabok’s epic fight depictions and to hopefully get some more information surrounding Grail’s actual plans.
5. Dark Knight III: The Master Race #3
Why: The saga has been great so far and the previews for the Green Lantern mini-comic are intriguing. I can’t wait to see what happens to Carrie Kelly.
