DC Entertainment Will Not Credit Birds of Prey Creator Jordan Gorfinkel in Upcoming Live-Action Film
DC Comics legend Chuck Dixon indicates that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment will not be crediting Birds of Prey creator Jordan Gorfinkel in their upcoming live-action adaptation of Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie.
Dixon is the co-creator of Bane and the writer on the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LYU6QW2″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey[/easyazon_link] one-shot, which featured the first appearance of the Birds of Prey team.
He detailed to me that it was in fact DC Comics Associate Editor Jordan Gorfinkel who is the creator of Birds of Prey.
“Jordan Gorfinkel came up with the concept for Birds of Prey and presented it to me. Black Canary and Oracle working together and forming a bond without meeting was all him.”
Dixon added that he initially resisted the idea of working on the project, but Gorf continued to pursue him noting he was “the only writer he knew who’d get the series’ emotional through-line.”
“I resisted working on it at first but Gorf wouldn’t give up on me. He had no Plan B other than me writing it. He told me just the other day that he stuck with me because I was the only writer he knew who’d get the series’ emotional through-line.”
Dixon did eventually agree to write the one-shot and expressed just how on the mark Gorf’s idea to team the two was.
“When I eventually agreed to work on a one-shot special I saw what Gorf was talking about. Dianah and Babs had a terrific chemistry playing off their disparate personalities as established. Man, it was a lot of fun to write. “
In the back matter of the original Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey one-shot, Gorfinkel credits Frank Pittarese for coming up with the actual name Birds of Prey.
Gorfinkel wrote, “Lest I forget, special thanks to my cohort and good friend Frank Pittarese for coming up with the monicker “Birds of Prey.”
He also indicated he had more plans for the Birds of Prey following the one-shot:
“I hope you like what you see and that you will let me know via your mail…More important, I hope you will help me push for another go ’round with the Birds of Prey because there is a lot more to say about them.”
Dixon made it clear he was not happy that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are not crediting Gorfinkel, the creator of Birds of Prey, on the upcoming live-action film.
Dixon told me, “The decision to leave Jordan out of the end credits is just plain wrong. It’s based on antiquated rules established at DC for paid staffers such as editors and such. Using those rules to deny Gorf the credit he’s due is weak cheese.”
What do you make of Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s decision to not credit Jordan Gorfinkel as the creator of Birds of Prey?
