According to a translation by CNN, Yifei posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo writing, “I support the Hong Kong police. You can all attack me now. What a shame for Hong Kong.”

Following Yifie’s post a number of folks called for a boycott of the upcoming Disney live-action film with the #BoycottMulan on Twitter.
Disney’s Mulan actress, Liu Yifei, supports police brutality and oppression in Hong Kong.
Real ironic for a naturalized American citizen to shit on people fighting for freedom and democracy.

#BoycottMulan how tone deaf do you have to be to support police brutality when you just filmed a character who is supposed to stand against oppression in its raw form? Pound sand. pic.twitter.com/Ug8pfh3JPN

She lives in America, her family is in America, she’s a citizen who enjoys all the protection and privileges of any American. That includes freedom of speech. If she wanted to, she could be a powerful voice for justice but instead, she supports this brutality #boycottMulan

Living and working in the free west, while supporting an oppressive regime at home. Hong Kongers are fighting for the same rights you already have and your response is basically ‘well fuck ’em’. Shame on you @yifei_cc!#BoycottMulan #BoycottDisney pic.twitter.com/UrCxguipWy

CNN reports that Liu did receive quite a bit of support on Weibo. They reported, “Nearly all the comments on her post echoed support for the Hong Kong police and Beijing.”
Liu is not the only celebrity to weigh in on the protests. Jackie Chan did in an interview with China’s CCTV where he states, “I feel the pride of being a Chinese everywhere. The five-starred red flag is respected worldwide.”
Pop star Denise Ho spoke in front of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in favor of the protestors saying, “The Vienna Declaration guarantees democracy and human rights. Yet in Hong Kong, these are under serious attack.”
Do you plan on boycotting Disney’s live-action Mulan film after Liu’s statements?
