Wonder Woman Star Gal Gadot Wades into Israeli Politics – Defends Rotem Sela’s Criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
Wonder Woman and Fast and the Furious star Gal Gadot waded into Israeli politics with an Instagram Story post defending Rotem Sela’s criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Gadot posted to Instagram Stories in support of Israeli actress Rotem Sela, who criticized Netanyahu and his Likud party’s stance on citizenship.
She posted in Hebrew, but it was translated by the The Straits Times, “Loving your neighbour as yourself is not a matter of right-left, Jewish-Arab, secular or religious; it is a matter of dialogue, of dialogue for peace, equality and tolerance for each other.” She would add, “The responsibility for such hope is on us to create a brighter future for our children. Rotem, my sister, you’re an inspiration for us all.”
Sela had criticized the current Israeli government led by Netanyahu on Instagram. As translated by The Times of Israel, she wrote, “What is the problem with the Arabs??? Dear god, there are also Arab citizens in this country. When the hell will someone in this government convey to the public that Israel is a state of all its citizens and that all people were created equal, and that even the Arabs and the Druze and the LGBTs and — shock — the leftists are human.”
According to Fox News her criticism came after a TV interview with Israeli Culture Minister Miri Regev who “urged citizens to vote for Netanyahu in April to avoid a government with Arab political parties.”
Netanyahu would respond to Sela via Facebook. The Times of Israel translates Netanyahu’s response:
“Dear Rotem, an important correction: Israel is not a state of all its citizens. According to the nation-state law we passed, Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people — and not anyone else. As you wrote, there is no problem with Israel’s Arab citizens. They have equal rights and the Likud government has invested more than any other government in the Arab population.”
According to The Times of Israel, Netanyahu would also add that a Gantz-led government that included the Arab parties would ‘undercut the state’s security.'”
Following Netanyahu’s response Sela disabled commenting on her Instagram saying she received “disgusting” responses. She added they “will never prevent me from voicing my opinion.”
Sela and Gadot appear to be close friends as Sela posted a number of Instagram posts featuring Gadot and her having a good time with some of their other friends.
What do you make of Gal Gadot’s response to Benjamin Netanyahu?
