Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Rumors Provide Plot Details and Casting!

Some new rumors have surfaced regarding James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3  project.

The new rumors come from both 4Chan and Reddit. As for the 4Chan rumors Cosmic Book News reports there are actually two versions of the film.

Here’s what we can decipher from the 4Chan leaks:

  • John Cena might have a cameo role in the film. Gunn talked to Cena on the set of Suicide Squad and the two became close during filming.
  • Lucas Till of X-Men First Class (Havok/Alex Summers) is desired for the role of Adam Warlock.
  • Marvel wants Liam Neeson to play the High Evolutionary.
  • Thor may or may not have an appearance in GOTG3. There are currently two drafts of the script, one with his involvement and one without.
  • The High Evolutionary is not the big bad for the film – but a necessary evil, similar to the Collector in the first Guardians film. He is the creator of Rocket and Lylla, an otter.
  • Ayesha does indeed create Adam Warlock to destroy the Guardians, but he rebels and eventually aids the Guardians.
  • Drax adopts a young girl named Cammi, who subsequently forms a bond with Mantis.
  • Nebula sacrifices herself by the end of the film.
  • Lady Gaga is sought out for the role of Lylla, Rocket’s sapient otter soulmate, who is also a creation of the High Evolutionary just as Rocket was. Other possible actors voicing the role include Helena Bonham Carter, Sandra Bullock, Charlize Theron, and Demi Moore.

As for the Reddit leaks, they contradict some of the 4Chan leaks, but also seemed to confirm some of them.

Reddit user MahrvelLeeks detailed the parts that could be confirmed including Thor’s presence in the film and how the High Evolutionary created both Rocket and Lylla.

However, they indicate that Nebula does not sacrifice herself instead it is Groot, who once again sacrifices himself.

They also note that Drax doesn’t adopt a daughter, but somehow finds his real daughter alive.

Apparently, Adam Warlock is powered by an Anulax battery that obtains some kind of absorption ability. In the comics he wields the Soul Stone.

Needless to say these leaks appear to be all over the place.

What’s Certain

Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula, recently talked about reading the script for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3:

“I can say that I’ve read it and it’s amazing. We’re all really excited that James is back to complete the trilogy because it wouldn’t have felt right without him. It’s a wonderful, wonderful script.”

And that’s about as much information she gave on it.

Sean Gunn, who plays Kraglin and is the brother of writer/director James Gunn, previously indicated the script might not be finalized. He also believed that James could make some changes.

“I know, you know… I think my brother may do… he may do another pass, in which case I would read that version.”

James  Gunn turned in the script to Marvel Studios right before he was fired last year. With a script finished, but with the controversy surrounding Gunn’s firing the overall process was halted and the release date of the film was postponed.

Chris Pratt, who plays Star Lord/Peter Quill in the Guardians films spoke with MTV News about the script (or at least the version he saw after Gunn was fired):

And again, that’s about as much as we got from him.

What about Mark Hamill?

There were also talks with Mark Hamill some time ago for Gunn to incorporate him into his next film. The two started talking after a twitter user suggested that Gunn get Hamill a role in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3. Gunn was more than happy to oblige:

The two finally met later that year, before Gunn was fired from Marvel for a short time. What they talked about during their meetup was extensive, but vague. And no one knows if the meeting ended with Hamill discussing a role in Gunn’s upcoming film.

Gunn would later reveal in an Instagram Stories Q&A as reported by Metro that he and Hamill did not discuss a pending appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Gunn stated, “Mark is my friend. We never had these talks you speak of.” That doesn’t necessarily mean Hamill won’t show up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

John Cena, et al.

Cena’s current filmography includes Bumblebee and The Marine, but is mostly known for his WWE career. His breakout into the film industry has been through smaller roles in lesser known films. But with roles in bigger films like this one, he might have a post-wrestling career all set up for him much like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson does.

What’s interesting is Liam Neeson out of left field. I thought the role of High Evolutionary would be going to Hamill based on what we saw last year from that meeting between Gunn and the legendary Star Wars actor. But I guess deals and acting gigs don’t happen like that in Hollywood.

And then there’s Lucas Till as Adam Warlock. As far as I can tell from the leak, Warlock will be in the film quite a lot. Till’s involvement with First Class was minuscule compared to Fassbender and McAvoy. Maybe the folks in casting are hoping that his chops in MacGyver will be enough to carry the film.
