They keep adding people to the Black Adam cast. The latest is a heroine with a connection to Red Tornado.
An exclusive by The Illuminerdi reports the search is on for an actress to play Cyclone, granddaughter of the Golden Age hero Tornado.
According to the story, “a casting call has gone out for Cyclone as the lead female of the film, and her description points to her being every bit the cheerful and bubbly ball of joy that fans know her as.”
They are reportedly looking for an actress in her 20s, college age, and Atom Smasher may act as her love interest. Given that he is usually a beau for Stargirl, Illuminerdi thinks this could lead to a love triangle.
In comics, Cyclone is a relatively late addition to the annals of DC history. A “19-year old Harvard student and musical lover,” her real name is Maxine Hunkel, she’s the granddaughter of Ma Hunkel.
Maxine developed abilities after being experimented on by T.O. Morrow, the creator of the sentient, articulate android Red Tornado, also from Earth-2, who most fans are more familiar with and became a member of the Justice League.
Aside from becoming a Justice Society of America recruit and taking on the code name of Cyclone, Maxine’s backstory is underdeveloped. Black Adam might go a long way to change that.
It’s happened in other cases. If not for Batman: The Animated Series fans would not have Harley Quinn or the origin story for Mr. Freeze they all know.
Cyclone joins an already bloated cast, if rumors are to be believed, made up of Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Doctor Fate, Stargirl, Atom Smasher, and Black Adam himself, played by Dwayne Johnson.
The Golden Age Flash and Green Lantern, Jay Garrick and Alan Scott, are expected too but not much is known about plans for them.
Illuminderdi thinks there will be a passing of the torch due to the ancient status of Hawkman and Black Adam and the youthful age range in the casting calls for Cyclone, Stargirl, and the bulk of the JSA.
There is still speculation what effect Black Adam will have on the DC Universe when the film will have its own Stargirl at the same time as a CW/DC Universe Original drama puts a new spin on her.
It’s possible Black Adam will act as that reboot of the Extended Universe we’ve been hearing about.
