Capcom Announces Five New DLC Characters for Street Fighter V’s Final Season!

Capcom’s popular fighting game Street Fighter V will be receiving a new set of downloadable content that will close out the game’s final competitive season.

On August 5th, Director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto hosted a special Summer Update live stream to discuss the upcoming additions to Street Fighter V.

 

In the 15 minute plus video, the pair go over some news as well as other items fans of the long time franchise could get excited about. Some of the additions will be new costumes for the fighters as well as new stages.

But that’s not all. The fight roster will expand by a total of five Capcom fighting game alumni; 4 of which were announced during the stream with the 5th yet to be revealed.

Fans should recognize some of the names. Three come from previous Street Fighter games while one comes from another franchise.

They include:

  • Dan Hibiki (Street Fighter Alpha)
  • Oro (Street Fighter III: New Generation)
  • Rose (Street Fighter Alpha)
  • Akira Kazama (Rival Schools)

As mentioned, they won’t be alone. Another will round out the DLC pack. It ‘s currently unknown yet who will be the 5th fighter, but it’s always fun to speculate.

According to the developers, these fighters were chosen due to their pre-existing story relationships with characters who have already appeared in the game.

In relation to the main cast, Dan is a long-time friend of Blanka and Sakura.

Oro and Dhalsim share a friendly and respectful relationship with one another.

Rose is considered by Meant to be her ‘Master’, and Akira faced off against Sakura in Rival Schools.

Dan Hibiki is slated to be the first fighter released, with a given release window of Winter 2020.

In their stream, they also revealed a mysterious “new battle mechanic” that they spoke little of. Each is set to release incrementally through 2021.

As you can see, fighters won’t be alone, costumes, and stages will be released with each fighter as they’re added to the roaster.
