‘Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge’ Writer Jeremy Adams Revealed Warner Bros. Rejected Pitch For Animated DCU Vs. Mortal Kombat Film

With all the appearances by DC and Mortal Kombat characters appearing in each other’s respective fighting games over the years, you would think the next logical step would be to throw them all on the battlefield on opposite sides in an animated movie. Moreover, a Midway-developed game with that very idea was released in 2008. Half the work has been done.

But, unfortunately, the concept is one Warner Bros. Animation decided to turn down, revealed screenwriter Jeremy Adams who pitched bringing the intensity of the two universes together. Adams was involved in bringing stories of both properties to the screen and home video for WB — most recently co-writing Justice League: Warworld and Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge.

“I would lower your expectations. I don’t know if they have any plans to do more. I do know that we pitched that a while ago, but it was kind of rebuffed,” he told Comicbook.com. “I think at the end of the day, I don’t know if they’re ever going to do anymore. I hope they do, and I hope they call me to be involved.”

He added, “That would be great because I really love it. But I don’t know. I don’t know. I think it would be really cool though. Trust me, I would love to see a DC Mortal Kombat. That would be super, super cool.” It seems like a no-brainer too.

The outlet quipped that Warners must “hate money,” but neither they nor MK publisher NetherRealm Studios has given up on their respective brands. Between the releases of Mortal Kombat 1 and a planned DC Crisis On Infinite Earths animated film, they’re both doing modestly on their own — for now.

We shall see about DC in a few years. Maybe they’ll still belong to Warner after Superman: Legacy releases, and they can get around to Supes fighting, say, Raiden or Shang Tsung by then.
