Darkwing Duck Finds Home at Joe Books

Darkwing Duck

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Aaron Sparrow and James Silvani will be launching a new Darkwing Duck book in April from Joe Books. They will be joined Andrew Dalhouse, Deron Bennett, and Jesse Post.

Darkwing Duck was originally a Walt Disney Television Animation that ran from 1991 to 1992 on The Disney Afternoon and Saturday mornings on ABC. It starred the titular character and his sidekick pilot Launchpad McQuack as Darkwing struggles to find balance between his egotistical craving for fame and wanting to be a good father for his daughter, Gosalyn.

The series was a spin-off of the popular Duck Tales and was the first Disney Afternoon property that produced as a genre parody. It parodied elements of superhero, pulp adventure, and super-spy fiction. Darkwing’s character design itself is satirical referencing Golden Age heroes such as The Shadow and Doc Savage. The city he resides in, St. Canard, is a direct parody of Batman’s Gotham.

Joe Books is known for producing Disney content with Frozen: The Cinestory, Disney Pixar Comics Treasury, and Disney Princess Comics Treasury.

Along with this new comic, Disney has announced it plans to reboot the television series for a 2018 premiere.
