New York Comic Con to Spread Outside Javits Center
New York Comic Con’s organizers ReedPOP have suggested the show will expand beyond the Javits Center this fall.
ReedPOP’s Global Senior Vice President Lance Fensterman spoke to ComicBook.com about his goals to expand the Con. “I really want to get New York Comic-Con all over the city. We’ve been chipping away at that, with some success,” Fensterman explained. “Being in Hammerstein Ballroom and programming content there, great. Getting some of the NYC Super Week events out there.” He continued, “We really want to take a big step forward in kind of growing outside of the Javits Center, because that’s the only place we can grow. But really taking that event much more city-wide is a big goal.”
Fensterman did mention that a recent proposal to expand the Javits Center “seems quite viable.” However, completion of the expansion would be a few years out and construction would most likely create its own problems for the Con.
With ReedPOP attempting to expand New York Comic Con to more parts of the city, it has also forced them to reallocate resources and cancel their Special Edition: NYC, which had more of a focus on comic books.
It is unclear where ReedPOP will actually be expanding to within the city other than the aforementioned Hammerstein Ballroom where they hosted an exclusive slate of TV panels last year. They definitely have a good chunk of time in order to make arrangements as New York Comic Con doesn’t kick off until October 6th this year and runs through October 9th. Super Week events begin October 3rd and run throughout the week and into the convention weekend.
