Marvel Moves Publishing Operations to Burbank in Massive Shakeup, Names New EIC

It’s moving day. Marvel is relocating its House of Ideas from the historic streets of Midtown Manhattan to the corporate sprawl of Burbank, California. After nearly 90 years of calling New York City its creative home base, the comic book giant is officially packing up its legacy and heading out West.
The corporate hammer came down to impel this move during an all-hands town hall meeting, confirming a major industry shift that had been brewing for months. With Marvel’s Midtown office lease expiring, corporate parent Disney is seizing the opportunity to consolidate operations and align the publishing division directly with Marvel Studios.

Much more than a simple change of zip codes, this is a strategic play to bring the publisher under the watchful eye of Kevin Feige’s theatrical empire. By placing the source code of the MCU right next to Disney’s film and animation teams, corporate leadership hopes to inject new energy back into its publishing slate.
To lead this West Coast era, Marvel is initiating a major shakeup at the very top of its editorial masthead. Industry veteran Stephen Wacker is returning to step in as the new Editor-in-Chief. He replaces outgoing chief CB Cebulski, who is transitioning to Tokyo to oversee original graphic fiction as the new Editor, Asia Originals.
Wacker is a battle-tested brand veteran who spent over 15 years editing highly acclaimed runs on Superior Spider-Man and Daredevil before a brief indie hiatus. His appointment is a clear attempt to steady the creative ship and rebuild core creator relationships as the entire operation prepares to migrate across the country.

With Marvel vacating Manhattan, the classic era of East Coast comic publishing is officially dead. Roughly 100 New York-based employees are being asked to relocate. According to internal memos, the entire relocation process is scheduled to be finalized next July, bringing a historic century-long chapter of New York publishing to a permanent close.
