Batman is an Executioner in ‘Batman v Superman’

Batman v Superman producer Charles Roven revealed in an interview with Empire that Batman “is not giving people a chance.” He went on to say, “He is more than a vigilante. He has become not only the cop, if you will, he has also become the jury and executioner.”

Sounds like Judge Dredd. This is definitely a different Batman than from what we have seen on the big screen most recently. He is usually a protector of life choosing to capture the Joker instead of running him down in The Dark Knight and even saving the life of Ra’s Al Ghul in Batman Begins albeit he didn’t know he was Ra’s at the time. Probably the most notable is that Catwoman ended up killing Bane in the final movie of Nolan’s trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

In the comics, Batman originally had no qualms of killing people. Cracked has even put together a list of what they have dubbed, “The 6 Most Brutal Murders Committed by Batman.”

Roven continued in the interview to explain why Batman has become this executioner, “He’s seen the worst of what man can do. He’s been darkened by it, he’s tougher, he’s angrier, I guess.” But what are the worst of what man can do? Roven only hinted that Batman has “lost those that are near and dear to him, and not necessarily from old age or disease.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016 starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.
