Ben Affleck Reveals Matt Reeves’ Batman Will Be a “Starting-Out Version”

Since he’s made it official he is no longer wearing the cape, Ben Affleck feels more comfortable talking about The Batman and what he knows. On the promotional rounds for his new feature, Triple Frontier, as luck would have it, everyone is asking questions about Batman.

The latest candid comments come via Entertainment Tonight. Affleck avoided serious spoilers but did confirm something we’ve been hearing and reporting. Batman will be a youngster fresh on the scene.

“I’m looking forward to it. They’ve got a great director. They’re doing a kind of, I don’t want to give away anything because they get…but they’re doing a young version, a more starting-out version with a younger guy.”

This is a claim backed up by previous stories, people close to the situation and players involved (such as journalist and screenwriter Mark Hughes), and by the director/writer himself, Matt Reeves.

Affleck passed the torch in all respects to Reeves and first tweeted his anticipation in January. He left the project over creative and personal struggles, stating he couldn’t find a story he was happy with when writing it.

Reeves and Warner Bros. hit the reset button and want to go back to what worked for Christopher Nolan, though we don’t know if The Batman will be an origin story like Batman Begins.

Multiple names have been put forth as stepping into the role with little evidence to support them. Armie Hammer is the most recent. He, like a few, have never actually been approached.

Rumors of villains abound, suggesting Penguin will top the pecking order filled out by upwards of four others. They will more than likely be reduced to cameos moving the plot along or setting up for future movies.

Ben Affleck can be seen next in the Netflix original movie Triple Frontier which begins streaming this week. The movie also stars Charlie Hunnam and Oscar Isaac.

As for The Batman, Matt Reeves’s reboot spotlighting a rookie hero should swing into cinemas on June 25, 2021.
