Black Panther Concept Art Hints Another Could Become the Black Panther!
**Warning Black Panther Spoilers Below**
Black Panther is currently dominating the box offices and introducing many around the world to Wakanda.
Not only is it introducing us to Wakanda, but it’s also introducing us to an exceptional cast of characters including Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, Angela Bassett’s Ramonda, Danai Gurira’s Okoye, Daniel Kaluuya’s W’Kabi, and Winston Duke’s M’Baku.
One of the stand-out stars is Letitia Wright’s Shuri. She’s the sister of the newly crowned King T’Challa and the Black Panther. She’s also the brain behind Wakanda’s continued technological advancements with their treasured resource, vibranium.
In fact, Shuri oversees the main vibranium mine and even develops advanced suit technology for her brother T’Challa to wear on his missions. She also appears to be a skilled medical practitioner as she saves a key character during the movie.
While she plays an important role in the Black Panther film, it’s quite possible Marvel Studios already has even bigger plans for the character.
Concept art shows Shuri decked out in her own Black Panther suit. As you can see she even has her Black Panther gauntlets which she wields to great effect in the film.
It wouldn’t be unheard of to have Shuri take on the mantle of the Black Panther sometime in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Back in 2009 in Black Panther #2 by Reginald Hudlin, Ken Lashley, and Paul Neary, T’Challa was viciously attacked by Doctor Doom. Doom’s attack leaves T’Challa in a coma. The kingdom of Wakanda is vulnerable and they must find a new Black Panther to protect them. That new Black Panther is Shuri.
However, despite passing a number of trials to acquire the Heart-Shaped Herb, when Shuri meets the Panther God she is rejected and told she is unworthy to hold the title of Black Panther.
But the Panther God allows her to live. She would then face Morlun, the devourer of totems, and save her kingdom. Her willingness to stand up for Wakanda and sacrifice her own life for the people of Wakanda proved to the Panther God she was worthy of being the Black Panther.
Letitia Wright was excited about becoming the Black Panther in the future and she was notably excited.
“That’s the kindest thing an interviewer has ever asked me. I hope, whenever the time is right if it’s meant to happen, I would happily do it. But you can’t have a Shuri movie without T’Challa and you can’t have a Shuri movie without Ramonda and Nakia and the rest of the Dora Milaje and Okoye. So, I guess, the question is: when can we have Black Panther 2?”
Do you think Marvel Studios is already planning for Shuri to take on the mantle of the Black Panther?
