Black Panther CRUSHES At the Box Office!

Black Panther

Marvel Studios’ latest foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther, absolutely crushed its opening weekend box office.

Black Panther set a record-breaking $242 million domestic box office over President’s Day weekend. The record opening made it the second-highest four-day opening in movie history. However, it was the highest opening over President’s Day weekend beating Deadpool by almost $100 million. Not only did it break the President’s Day weekend record, it has the highest opening weekend in both February and Winter also topping Deadpool.

Box Office Mojo is even projecting Black Panther’s Sunday gross might break Star Wars: The Force Awakens single day Sunday gross of $60,553,189. Current projects have Black Panther sitting at $60,096,000 but Box Office Mojo believes it could do even better once the actual numbers come in.

Black Panther
already broke in to the top 10 movies of the past year. It currently sits at #10. But that isn’t the only chart the film is climbing. Black Panther is already the 25th highest grossing comic book adaptation of all-time. As for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies it’s already sitting at 12th spot ahead of The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, Ant-Man, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Doctor Strange. It’s already in striking distance of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Iron Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Along with the huge domestic haul at the box office, Black Panther appears to be doing well in the foreign market as well. Box Office Mojo estimates the film has already made $184,596,285 million abroad. This brings the total gross for the film up to around $419,596,285.

Black Panther is currently in theaters and doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all. The film stars Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Danai Gurira as Okoye, and Angela Bassett as Ramonda. Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler.
