Dave Bautista Claims “I Was Not Bashing Anyone” After Stating Dwayne” The Rock” Johnson is Not a Great Actor
Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista claims he was “not bashing anyone” in his recent comments about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena.
Bautista took to Twitter saying, “I was not bashing anyone. I’m not a disrespectful person. I speak from the heart and sometimes it comes across harsh. I stand by the interview.”
Retweeting this because although the headline is a bit misleading, I really appreciate them pointing out that I was not bashing anyone. I’m not a disrespectful person. I speak from the heart and sometimes it comes across harsh. I stand by the interview w/ @TB_Times #dreamchaser https://t.co/7yCtNasolh

In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Bautista praised Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a “really special” before emphatically saying he’s not a great actor.
“Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him.” Bautista would add, “Would I consider him a great actor? F*** no.”
Bautista would then insinuate that the roles The Rock and John Cena take are not good roles:
“I want good roles. I don’t care about Fast and Furious or Bumblebee. … That’s not the kind of stardom I want. … I want to be in Dune. I want to work with Denis Villeneuve. I want to work with Sam Mendes and Jodie Foster. I want to work with Academy Award winners. I’m proud to be a character actor. I want that respect and credibility and education.”
Bautista’s filmography includes Spectre, Escape Plan 2: Hades, Guardians of the Galaxy, Riddick, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy, Final Score, Hotel Artemis, Blade Runner 2049, Bushwick, Enter The Warriors Gate, and Heist among others.
Bautista will also appear in Avengers: Endgame, My Spy, Dune, Escape Plan: The Extractors, and Stuber.
In the interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Christopher Spata indicates Bautista takes on big action roles so he can do heartfelt indie movies:
“He wants to do a heartfelt indie movie this year but also wants to score a big, studio action movie, only because it could open doors to the things he really wants to do.”
What do you make of Bautista’s most recent comments? Do you think he was bashing The Rock and John Cena when speaking with the Tampa Bay Times, or was he just being harsh and speaking from the heart?
