Dave Bautista: “Marvel Studios Doesnt See Worth in Drax or Possibly Myself”
Guardians of the Galaxy and Drax actor Dave Bautista took to Twitter to state that Marvel Studios doesn’t see the worth in Drax or himself.
Bautista responded to a Tweet from GQ South Africa noting he wants to star in a Clayface solo movie. Bautista had responded enthusiastically to a fan that he should play the Matt Hagen version of Clayface.
I going to enthusiastically agree with you on that! 🙌🏽 https://t.co/ehPMYu4QPe

In responding to GQ South Africa, Bautista wrote, “Point is I freaking love comic book characters and I want a stand alone. Marvel Studios doesn’t see worth in Drax or possibly myself or both but I’m not giving up.” He then notes he missed out on an opportunity to play a DC character, “I missed out on a DC project because of scheduling conflicts but hopefully there’s other characters & opportunities.” (Related: Rumor: Dave Bautista Bound for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad)

Bautista would later add that he would even step out of the role for Drax if Marvel Studios decided to give the character a solo film. He wrote, “I literally would step out of this f****** role to see that movie!” He added, “Which most likely would get it made.”
#Drax is funny as hell! Hes also The Destroyer which is terrifying as hell. His wife and daughter were murdered! He mourns them and craves revenge!! NO! No movie there at all. I literally would step out of this fucking role to see that movie! Which most likely would get it made. https://t.co/dXUdkLObm6

He did clarify that he has no intentions to step out of the role. “No I wasn’t planning on trying to step out of the role. I’m just saying if it was a case where “someone” didn’t want to invest in me but wanted to make the movie with someone else, I’d be happy to step aside.”
No I wasn’t planning on trying to step out of the role. Im just saying if it was a case where“someone”didn’t want to invest in me but wanted to make the movie with someone else,I’d be happy to step aside. Safe bet that someone else would be a white guy named Chris😂 #justsayin 🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/28tHB8nRVQ

Bautista infamously railed against Disney and Marvel Studios following the firing of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. In an interview last August on the Jonathan Ross Show, Bautista stated, “To be honest with you, I don’t know if I want to work for Disney… I’ve been very vocal about the way I feel. I’m not afraid to admit the way I feel.” (Related: Dave Bautista Questions his Working Relationship with Disney!)
Bautsita had also likened Disney to fascists in a Tweet last August. He wrote, “I will do what I’m legally obligated to do but Guardians without James Gunn is not what I signed up for. Guardians of the Galaxy without James Gunn just isn’t Guardians of the Galaxy. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis. That’s just how I feel.” (Related: After James Gunn Firing Dave Bautista Likens Disney to Fascists)
I will do what Im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t GOTG. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis . That’s just how I feel https://t.co/Ym4FwruVDu

He also threatened to have Disney release him from his contract if they did not use James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He stated, “Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing a James a disservice if I didn’t.” (Related: Dave Bautista Threatens to Quit Guardians of the Galaxy)
