Disney and Lucasfilm Reveal First Plot Synopsis for Solo: A Star Wars Story
Disney and Lucasfilm finally revealed the first plot synopsis for their upcoming Han Solo centric film, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” releases in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018.”
Shockingly it’s what we all expected the story to be about. No real big surprises as far as the overall description of the story here. However, what is interesting is that Disney and Lucasfilm are keeping the May 25, 2018 release date.
Recent reports suggested the film would continue reshoots up until late February. This means they would still be shooting three months before the final product is supposed to hit theaters.
It’s the latest in a string of controversies that have plagued the film. First, Lucasfilm fired directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller after supposed clashes with writers Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan as well as Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. Lucasfilm brought in Ron Howard to replace The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street directors. Howard took over the film with three weeks of scheduled principal photography left. However, rumors suggest with reshoots he redid the entire film.
The fact that Lucasfilm and Disney have not released a trailer for the film is also suspect and leads many to believe the release date will be pushed back. The film will also face stiff competition from 20th Century Fox’s Untitled Deadpool Sequel which changed its release date to May 18th.
If that wasn’t enough, the film also is the first Star Wars film to come out since Star Wars: The Last Jedi. While the film made Disney and Lucasfilm quite a chunk of change, it had a very mixed reception from fans with the Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes now sitting at 49% despite a 90% Tomatometer Score from the critics.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will definitely be a barometer for Lucasfilm and Disney and the direction they’ve taken Star Wars.
