Disneyland Newsstand Features an “Avengers: Infinity War” Easter Egg!
Eagle-eyed Marvel fans walking the streets of Disneyland in Anaheim have spotted a peculiar looking newsstand. The Daily Bugle. Sporting a headline that just beckons to the comic book nerd in all of us.
Arguably the best Easter Egg I’ve ever found at Disneyland. from r/marvelstudios
Reddit user Ford117 posted the photo of this particular newspaper dispenser. For the uninitiated, the Daily Bugle is the iconic news company that employed Peter Parker. The head editor being J. Jonah Jameson.
***Spoilers for readers who haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War***
The headline is a play on the shape of the ship, piloted by Ebony Maw in the film. The official name of the craft, however, is the Q-Ship. Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian show up on the surface of the planet with one goal, to obtain the Time Stone. They are met with the combined fighting force of Doctor Strange, Wong, Iron Man, and Spider-Man, with Bruce Banner unable to Hulk up.
The Q-Ship is hardly on the planet for more than a few minutes. Quite a lot of devastation happens in the battle between the two members of the Black Order and Earth’s mightiest heroes. The craft leaves the planet with Doctor Strange and the Time Stone in tow. However, Spider-Man and Iron Man latch on to the craft before it jettisons into space.
Two other stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are featured above the headline. One announces the nation of Wakanda coming out from their isolation. The other stories feature Shuri, as to suggest T’Challa’s sister is somewhat like covering royalty when they visit the U.S.
What does it all mean?
There’s been a lot of speculation about what the Daily Bugle would look like for Tom Holland’s version of Spider-Man. A lot of Peter Parker’s friends are younger versions of their comic book counterparts. Flash Thompson is more of a troll than a bully. Parker has more footage of Spider-Man on YouTube, and not so much photographs of the wall-crawler.
Fans have speculated that the Bugle would pay this version of Parker for his footage. Or as MCU Exchange showed in an event in Tokyo teasing a more comic-book-accurate Daily Bugle, as a legit newspaper company. We never saw the paper in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and with this it could mean the Daily Bugle exists in the MCU.
Whether this iteration of the news company will carry into the Spider-Man: Far From Home film is yet to be determined. At least some clever folks at Disneyland know how to sell a paper to comic book nerds.
Spider-Man: Far From Home premieres in theaters on July 5, 2019. Avengers 4 comes out before that on May 3, 2019.
