On August 21st, Derrickson took to his personal Twitter page to bluntly tell fans, “Don’t go see Tenet or any other movie in a theater.”
“There, I said it,” declared the director:
Derrickson’s request came as theaters began to re-open for business amidst the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, despite the transmission potential presented by groups of people congregating in a closed space.
He would follow up his initial tweet with a link to an AV Club article that discussed the potential health risks presented by increased theater attendance. He also quoted Dr. Anne W. Rimoin, who said, “Short of renting out an entire theater, which is obviously not an option for most of us, there is no scenario in which going to a movie theater is a good idea.”

Nolan’s reputation and general popularity has led numerous theaters to promote Tenet as a reason to return to theaters, in the hopes of enticing more viewers to return to their establishments.
In support of his call to non-action, Derrickson retweeted a tweet by film journalist Walter Chaw that told theater attendees that their actions were “selfishly prolonging this crisis while endangering yourself, your family, and every stranger who may occupy a space you’ve vacated anywhere you go once you’ve been infected.”:
“You don’t care about others. You suck,” concluded Chaw.
The tweet is quite intreesting, coming for the director. It seems that the current pandemic has people questioning a return to the cinema. What do you make of Derrickson’s tweet? Do you agree that theater attendance presents a danger during the pandemic? Let us know!
