Fan Petition Wants Danny DeVito to Play Wolverine in the MCU!
A fan petition to have actor Danny DeVito play Wolverine in the MCU has over 50,000 signatures.
Fans of the character have for the longest time wanted Logan played accurately to his height.
The petition on Change.org was created by Ring Arius. They state that DeVito could pull off Wolverine based solely on his height. At 4’10”, this puts DeVito a bit shorter than the comic book version of James Howlett.
Ring Arius writes:
“Danny DeVito’s height is a lot closer to the comic books portrayal of Wolverine. With Danny being 4’10” and Wolverine 5’3″.”
Arius also states that he could pull off the physicality the role demands, as he has portrayed the Trashman on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Ring Arius explains:
“Secondly, we all saw Danny’s portrayal of the Trashman. So, we know he is fully capable of fighting, and that he is not afraid when things get dirty!”
However, in our own listings, we also factored in the age of the actor as to how likely they would be to take on the role for a substantial amount of time. Unfortunately, DeVito is 75 years old. It may be a stretch for the actor to carry a franchise for the next 10+ years.
The Cry for A Comic Book Accurate Wolverine
It’s been a while since we’ve seen the canuckle-head as a scrapper and just a foot or two short of his love-interest, Jean Grey.
In the comics, his stature made him an unlikely contender against the larger foes like Cyber or the Incredible Hulk. The chart above puts his height somewhere around Black Widow but head and shoulders above Rocket Raccoon and Howard the Duck.
When Hugh Jackman was cast for the role in the original X-men film, fans and even creators were clamoring for Bob Hoskins. Somewhere in the ether of fan-casting, DeVito was also considered.
According to @michaelzapcic, Danny Devito was a first choice to play Wolverine. In some alternate world, Hugh Jackman IS the Penguin. #CBM

Recently, there have been fan castings for Daniel Radcliffe to take up the claws. Others have been eyeing Rocketman and Kingsman star Taron Egerton. Radcliffe stands at 5’5″ and Egerton is a bit taller at 5’9. Yet they seem closer to the comic book version than the previous Logan in Jackman, who stood at 6’2″.
Personally, I’m still waiting for them to tap Shia. C’mon Marvel, make it happen!
Old-Man DeVito
DeVito’s diminutive size is due to Fairbanks’s disease, a.k.a. multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, a genetic bone growth disorder.
However, his height didn’t keep him from landing a number of important roles in films over the years. His career skyrocketed after taking on roles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Taxi, and Twins.
More recently, he has had roles in the live-action remake of Dumbo and the aforementioned It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Not forgetting to mention he will also appear in Jumanji: The Next Level.
If DeVito took on the role of Logan, it wouldn’t be his first romp in the comic book realm. He also played the Penguin in 1992’s Batman Returns.
Almost every website is putting the possibility of DeVito taking up the role of Logan in the MCU at zero. However, I’ll have to admit that it would be quite an impressive feat for Disney to cast an actor advanced in years for such an iconic role. And it would be equally impressive for DeVito to take on the role despite his age and the physical demand for the role.
But what do you thing about this fan casting choice and the petition? Sound off in the comments below or let’s talk about it on social media!
