Gal Gadot Announces Wonder Woman 1984 Release Date Moved to Summer 2020

Warner Bros. and DC Films pushed back the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine back to June 5, 2020. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on November 1, 2019.

Gal Gadot made the announcement on Twitter.

Warner Bros. indicated the change in date was due to the studio believing the film should premiere in the summer. Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution Jeff Goldstein explained, “We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.”

The move to June 5, 2020 replaced the originally scheduled Six Billion Dollar Man starring Mark Wahlberg. The move to the first weekend in June will see it follow Disney’s Maleficient 2. It will be followed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Gal Gadot’s Red Notice on June 12, 2018. It definitely opens it up where there won’t be many huge superhero films coming out around it. The closes is Godzilla vs Kong scheduled for May 22 and an untitled Fox/Marvel film on June 26.

Wonder Woman 1984 will take place in the 1980s following the original film’s setting in World War I. The movie will feature long-time Wonder Woman foe Cheetah played by Kristen Wiig. There are also rumors that the film could include Wonder Woman’s iconic Invisible Jet. The movie was filming throughout the Washington D.C. area over the summer where plenty of fans captured a ton of set footage showcasing Wonder Woman’s insane speed as well as Cheetah’s unique power set.

The first Wonder Woman film made over $821 million world wide and it became the highest grossing film with a female director. The film was critically praised with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 93% Critic Score. The audience score was similar, but a bit lower coming in at 88%.

What do you make of this date change? Would you rather see Wonder Woman in the summer or during the winter?
