Jared Leto and Margot Robbie To Star In Joker And Harley Quinn Movie!
Jared Leto is going to be a busy man for DC Comics and possibly Valiant Comics. Earlier this week, news broke Leto would reprise his role as the Joker for a Suicide Squad sequel as well as Gotham City Sirens.
Now, Variety reports Leto and his Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie will team up once again for a Joker and Harley Quinn centric movie.
Variety describes the movie as a “criminal love story.” NBC’s This Is Us director and executive producer Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in final negotiations to direct the film. Ficarra and Requa are big players. They recently directed Robbie and Will Smith’s 2015 film Focus. They also worked on Crazy, Stupid, Love and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
The last time we saw Robbie and Leto on film together was in Suicide Squad which was critically panned, but brought in $745 million worldwide becoming a box office success.
One key piece of information in the Variety report notes this new Joker and Harley Quinn “appears to have superseded Gotham City Sirens at this point.” Rumors swirled after San Diego Comic-Con that Gotham City Sirens might no longer be happening, but Suicide Squad director David Ayer tried to lay those to rest when he tweeted out an image of Harley Quinn doing her best Jack Nicholson impression from The Shining.

It does appear DC and Warner Bros. have a lot going on as they attempt to leverage their DC Comics properties in order to compete with the goliath that is Disney/Marvel. They recently announced a standalone Joker origin story and an interview from The Batman director Matt Reeves also notes he is working on a potential standalone Batman trilogy. DC also has a number of DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films in the works. They include Justice League which comes out this year on November 17, 2017, Aquaman, Flashpoint, Shazam, and the Suicide Squad sequel.
