Jon Favreau And Dave Filoni Rumored To Be In Talks To Lead Star Wars Movies
Two different scoopers are claiming that both Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the creative team behind Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, are in talks to begin making Star Wars movies.
First, scooper Grace Randolph posted to Twitter, “Whoa – I hear Jon Favreau & Dave Filoni are in talks to head over to the movie side of Star Wars.”
“That would be BRILLIANT,” she added.

Not only would Randolph claim that Favreau and Filoni are heading to the movie side of Star Wars, but she also indicated that an Old Republic television series is in development.
Randolph wasn’t the only scooper claiming that Filoni and Favreau were heading to the movie side of Star Wars.
Scooper WDW Pro at That Park Place also claims the Mandalorian creators are also in talks to make Star Wars films.
WDW Pro claims, “Sources I have are telling me that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are being handed the keys to all future Star Wars movies for the foreseeable future.”
“They plan to create a Star Wars Cinematic Universe that is wholly their own. All that is left is a bit of extra pay negotiations and budgetary concerns,” he added.
Interestingly enough, WDW Pro also added, “Kathleen Kennedy, while in charge of Lucasfilm for the next three years, is being stripped of any control of Star Wars outside of The Acolyte (which may get cancelled) and some tertiary projects.”
These two new scoops from WDW Pro and Randolph aren’t the first time we’ve heard of Filoni and Favreau possibly working on a Star Wars film.
Scooper Mikey Sutton claimed back in September 2020 that a Mandalorian theatrical movie was being discussed.
Sutton wrote at Geekosity, “It’s no surprise that a Mandalorian theatrical movie is being discussed at Disney.”
He went on to claim, “According to a source, the film will include characters introduced on the Rebels animated show and the Big Bad is going to be Grand Admiral Thrawn.”
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy did confirm that The Mandalorian and its spin off shows would lead to a climactic event during Disney Investor Day 2020.
She specifically stated, “Set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, these interconnected shows along with future stories will excite new audiences, embrace our most passionate fans, and will culminate in a climactic story event.”
It’s unclear what that climactic story event might be, but it’s possible it could be a film that spins out of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett.

In January of this year, Sutton also scooped that Lucasfilm was planning to adapt Timothy Zahn’s Star Wars trilogy Heir to the Empire and that one source revealed it might be turned into a theatrical film.
Sutton relayed, “One insider said he wouldn’t be surprised if the endgame of the Mandalorian putting together his team of galactic, ragtag cosmic Avengers will result in a theatrical film named after Heir to the Empire.”
