Kevin Feige Explains Why Captain Marvel Won’t Wear Iconic Ms. Marvel Outfit
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige addressed why Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers will not be wearing the iconic Ms. Marvel outfit in the upcoming superhero flick Captain Marvel.
Feige spoke to The Hollywood Reporter recalling a meeting with Larson that appeared to take place before production began.
Feige tells THR that Larson saw back issues of what we can only assume was the Ms. Marvel comic displayed on the walls
“If you look at the comics, the further you go back, the less clothes Carol Danvers seems to be wearing. Oftentimes it’s a one-piece bathing suit basically, with outrageous comic proportions. … Brie pointed it out on the wall, and we went, ‘Yeah … just so you know, that’s not what we’re doing.’ She goes, ‘OK. I didn’t think so, but I’m glad you said that.”
Unfortunately, this is utter and complete bogus as many comic book fans know. Ms. Marvel’s outfits were hardly revealing. Her original outfit didn’t show off any cleavage, and really only showed the character’s legs, her stomach, and her back.
Here’s the cover showing off her costume from Ms. Marvel #1 from 1977.
However, if you go back to Carol Danvers’ first appearance in Marvel Super-Heroes #13, she is in civilian clothes. You can see her below with a reddish orange top and green pants with black flats.
Even in Captain Marvel #18 she is still seen in civilian clothes when the Psyche-Magnitron explodes and Captain Marvel, at the time the Kree hero Mar-Vell, saves her. She’s wearing a pink top with a green skirt.
Carol Danvers’ outfit would undergo changes during the Ms. Marvel run that began in 1977. By the final issue, she was rocking her iconic outfit which only shows off her upper thighs and basically her shoulders. It’s basically a one-piece swimsuit with big boots and long gloves.
The outfit would stay relatively unchanged. In fact in [easyazon_link identifier=”B00396043U” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Ms. Marvel #50[/easyazon_link] which was published in February of 2010, she’s still wearing her iconic outfit.
Ms. Marvel’s iconic outfit shows less skin than Batman’s sidekick Robin. Let that sink in.
And Marvel also publishes a character Namor. He shows a whole lot of skin.
What do you make of Kevin Feige’s comments regarding Ms. Marvel’s outfits? Do you think there is a problem with Ms. Marvel’s iconic outfit?
