Lucasfilm Unveils 9 Brand New Solo: A Star Wars Story Character Posters
Disney and Lucasfilm just released nine brand new Solo: A Star Wars Story character posters. The nine posters feature Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Emilia Clarke as Qi’Ra, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Thandie Newton as Val, Joonas Suottamo as Chewbacca, Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos, Phoebe Waller-Bridge as L3-37, and Jon Favreau as Rio.
Take a look:
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be the first Star Wars film since the extremely divisive Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film is going to have plenty of competition in the month of May with Avengers: Infinity War dropping on April 27 and Deadpool 2 coming out on May 18. The film might also feel pressure on the back end from Disney’s Incredibles 2.
Not only will Solo have stiff competition at the box office, it will be a barometer movie for Star Wars films going forward. It will be the first test to see if the Star Wars brand was tarnished after Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi or if fans are willing to give the series a second chance.
Aside from trying to rekindle fan love for the franchise, the film also faced its own internal struggles. Director Ron Howard was tapped by Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm to replace Phil Lord and Christopher after reports of conflict with Kennedy were reported. However, Kennedy gave her own take to EW:
“I think these guys are hilarious, but they come from a background of animation and sketch comedy and when you are making these movies you can do that and there’s plenty of room for improvisation, we do that all the time, but it has to be inside of a highly structured process or you can’t get the work done and you can’t move the armies of people to anticipate and have things ready. So, it literally came down to process. Just getting it done.”
The movie is expected to showcase Han Solo’s first meeting with Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian as he enters the dark and dangerous criminal underworld of the Star Wars universe.
Solo: A Star Wars story comes out on May 25, 2018.
