Nathan Fillion Discusses Potential of Booster Gold Role!
Actor Nathan Fillion might be one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. He became endeared to fans in his role as Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds in Firefly and Serenity. He then went on to star in the television show Castle. Most recently he created a fan film for Uncharted, where he plays hero and treasure hunter, Nathan Drake, alongside Stephen Lang’s Sully, and Mircea Monroe’s Elena Fisher.
However, there’s been talk of Fillion potentially playing Booster Gold in a future DC Films movie. In fact, a number of fans would love to see that happened. Fillion discussed the fan casting and the possibility of him becoming Booster Gold with ScreenRant:
“I heard that. He’s a great character. Am I vying for the role? And do I want an internet thing to go crazy? No, I don’t want that to happen. Do I think it’s a great role? Yes. Would I do an amazing job… I like to think that I would… I like to think that I would. I like to think I would. He’s a great character. He’s such a dufus. I could do that.”
Fillion had previously expressed interest in playing Booster Gold back in 2015 at Wizard World Chicago while on a Fireplay panel.
Fillion was asked who he would like to play. Here’s how he responded:
“I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold. That’s kind of my niche: show-offy, vain… I think I could handle that. Not too bright. I think Ambush Bug – you like that? A little bit off his rocker, you’d never see my face. But I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot.”
If you are unfamiliar with Booster Gold, he is one of the more zany comic book characters in the DC Comics stable. The character’s real name is Michael Jon Carter and he was born in the 25th Century in Gotham City. However, he travel back in time to the 20th Century Metropolis to begin fighting crime as a celebrity hero with endorsement deals and movie contracts.
DC is currently developing a Booster Gold movie from Greg Berlanti. Berlanti spoke to The Wrap back in March and confirmed the project was still being developed, “It’s still in development with DC.” Berlanti added, “They’re trying to figure out both the distance that we still have to travel and how we want to execute it.”
Berlanti also discussed how the film would “fit into their greater landscape,” referring to the DC Extended Universe movies like Justice League, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and others. Berlant would conclude, “That’s really on them, they’re still kind of determining their order of business on that end.”
