New Alita: Battle Angel Trailer Arrives
A brand new Alita: Battle Angel trailer has arrived just as San Diego Comic-Con has wrapped up. It’s a brilliant move by the studio to drop it right after San Diego Comic-Con for maximum exposure.
Take a look:
The new trailer looks very good. It not only showcases some intense actions scenes, but it shows the heart of the movie as well. It’s not just about fighting against what appears to be a corrupt system, but it’s about self-discovery and finding out who you are.
This trailer release comes after the film received a special screening at the Regal Theater in Horton Plaza in San Diego during San Diego Comic-Con. They also showed off 18 minutes of footage including a scene where Alita uses an ancient fighting style known as Panzer Kunst that wowed the attendees with its use of Avatar technology created by Peter Jackson’s WETA.
SyFy really liked how the technology “captured Salazar’s minute facial expressions and eye motions and even tears.”
The film is an adaptation of the Japanese manga Gunnm created by Yukito Kishiro in 1990. The manga was originally published in Shueisha’s Business Jump magazine and has seen two of the nine volumes adapted into original anime films called Battle Angel.
Along with the trailer they also had a live Q&A session.

What do you make of the trailer? I think it looks pretty good. I like the action and fight scenes and the emotion of the film is apparent in both Alita’s relationship with her father figure as well as her love interest.
Here’s the official description:
“From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (KeeanJohnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.”
Alita: Battle Angel comes to theaters on December 21, 2018. The film stars Rosa Salazar as Alita, Eiza Gonzalez as Nyssiana, Jennifer Connely as Chiren, Ed Skrein as Zapan, Michelle Rodriguez as Gelda, Christoph Waltz as Dr. Dyson Ido, Mahershala Ali as Vector, Keenan Johnson as Hugo, and Jackie Earle Haley. The film is directed by Robert Rodriguez based off a script by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis.
