A new report claims to reveal the reason why Marvel Studios chose to move The Marvels from its summer release date to November.

Marvel Studios announced The Marvels was getting pushed back to November 10 with the release of a new poster for the film. On social media, Marvel wrote, “Higher. Further. Faster. Together. Check out the brand-new teaser poster for Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, coming to theaters November 10.”

The film was initially slated to release on November 11, 2022. However, during Disney’s D23 Expo 2022 the company announced it would be moved back to July 28, 2023.

Now, a new report from TheWrap claims that the reason the film was pushed back to November is “to give more time for post-production to complete.”

This report follows Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hyping the film to Entertainment Weekly. He noted the film would primarily focus on the dynamic between Larson’s Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan.

“That’s what the entire movie is about,” he said. “There are fun cosmic elements to it. Marvel comic fans will recognize elements of the Kree-Skrull war. And it’s picking up directly after the end of Captain Marvel 1, not in timeline but in story. We also do that in our upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasionand those are two very different follow-ups to that movie.”

Feige continued, “Tonally, they couldn’t be more different. But there’s something immensely powerful about seeing Monica and Kamala and Carol together in a frame. To me, it’s only akin to the first Avengers movie and seeing the six of them together in a frame. It’s chill-inducing. They’re so great together, and they all have different histories with one another.”

“The great thing about Kamala in her show, and now in this movie, is that she’s not unlike Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in Civil War. She can’t believe she’s with these other heroes, and can’t believe that she finds herself in these places. And that’s fun because we want to be that. I want to be that,” he concluded.

He also told Entertainment Weekly that Vellani’s Ms. Marvel would steal the show, “I’m very proud of the Ms. Marvel show. I also know — and this is a spoiler — she essentially steals The Marvels, which is coming out [July 28].”

However, Feige also hinted that a lot of people didn’t actually watch Ms. Marvel on Disney+, “It makes me excited that people will, I hope, see that movie and then go back and revisit those shows on Disney+. the fun thing about streaming is they are there forever, and people can keep re-exploring them.”

Ms. Marvel’s viewership is some of the worst for a Marvel Studios production on Disney+. The series premiere only garnered 249 million minutes viewed according to Nielsen.

By the time the show’s finale debuted on July 13th, which means the entire first season was available to stream, Nielsen reported the show only brought in 357 million minutes viewed.

On top of Ms. Marvel performing poorly on Disney+, Disney CEO Bob Iger also indicated that Marvel production quality has significantly declined.

During The Walt Disney Company’s Q1 FY23 Earnings Results call Iger answered a question about how the company is going to cut costs across its film and TV production. Iger answered in part, “We are going to lean more into our franchises, our core franchises, and our brands. I talked about curation in general entertainment. We have to be better at curating the Disney, and the Pixar, and the Marvel, and the Star Wars of it all.”

“And, of course, reduce costs on everything that we make. While we are extremely proud of what’s on the screen, it’s gotten to a point where it’s extraordinarily expensive. We want all the quality. We want the quality on the screen, but we have to look at what they cost us,” he added.

It’s quite likely that Marvel Studios could indeed have delayed The Marvels to give it more time in post-production in order to try and improve the film. However, Marvel Studios also recently attempted the same with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where they actually had Paul Rudd reshooting scenes a month out from the film’s release date.

It does not appear to have improved the quality of the film as The Critical Drinker said, “Watching this movie is like eating a Big Mac for the 500th time in your life. Just another iteration of the same formula that’s exactly what you expect from start to finish and leaves you feeling vaguely dirty and disappointed in yourself afterwards.”

He also noted, “It’s just the same crap regurgitated once more.”
