Nicolas Cage’s Intriguing Answer To A Superman Question May Hint He Is In The Flash
Nicolas Cage, star of such films as Pig and Wild at Heart, was notoriously close to playing Superman toward the end of the 90s in a movie directed by Batman’s Tim Burton but it wasn’t to be.
Deep into production back then and costing millions, the Burton-led Superman Lives was canceled – later on becoming a meme and the butt of a few jokes.
Footage and images from an early costume and hair test had people laughing at the prospect of Cage as the Man of Steel for a time. There was also the matter of him fighting a giant mechanical spider; that didn’t help either.

But after some time (roughly a generation) to reflect and a little documentary called The Death of Superman Lives to show us what we might have missed out on, everyone is reconsidering the idea of Cage wearing the cape.
They may still be less open to the mechanical spider. Who knows? Nevertheless, in the middle of the multiversal chaos encompassing the DCEU, they see an opportunity.
During a GQ interview that functioned like a Reddit AMA, a fan wondered why Warner Bros. can’t make Superman Lives now, and Cage had an intriguing answer.

Replying with a question, Cage said, “Would it matter how much time I appeared as the character?”
If it wasn’t for the aforementioned state of the DCEU and The Flash crossing realities into the Burtonverse, the Cage question would be rhetorical.
The rumors swirling for a while now that The Flash will have cameos from all over DC film/TV canon circle back to the conversation here.
The Nic Cage of Tomorrow finally making it to the big screen is one of the more prominent speculations as all the rules of continuity are broken. Moreover, it’s been said Cage’s Superman was that of the world Michael Keaton’s Batman lives in. Ergo, there’s a connection.
Could there be a cameo in store? Flash is delayed again long enough for one to be filmed and inserted so it’s certainly possible. We won’t know until the film comes out next year, hopefully.
For Nicolas Cage in the meantime, there’s his new film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent to look forward to.
