Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins just dropped one of the biggest spoilers for the sequel when she revealed that Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor will return for the sequel.

If you remember from the first film, Steve took off in the plane containing the poison gas. That plane subsequently blew up in the middle of the sky. We were led to believe that Steve Trevor was dead.

However, this wouldn’t be the first time a pilot has survived a massive explosion in a plane. If you remember from the Dark Knight Rises, Batman miraculously survives a nuclear explosion after attaching the nuclear bomb to his Batplane. It was later revealed he fixed the autopilot feature and bailed from the plane before it flew out into the ocean.

As to how Steve Trevor might return there are a number of possibilities. It’s possible he bailed out of the plane before it blew up in the sky similar to Batman’s tactic in Dark Knight Rises. It’s also possible, the DC Extended Universe may introduce the Lazarus Pit. If you’ve watched Arrow or read the comics, you know the Lazarus Pit is a natural phenomenon that not only heals injuries, but can bring people back from the dead. However, the Pit does have some consequences as exposure to them can drive you insane.

Other possibilities could include time travel. However, I’m not too keen on time travel being used so soon in the DC Extended Universe without introducing it through The Flash. It could also be a Steve Trevor from another dimension. Once again, I’m not really buying this possibility either given alternate dimensions haven’t really been explored in the DC Extended Universe and Wonder Woman isn’t really the character to do that kind of world building and exploration.

Not only did Jenkins reveal Trevor’s return, but it looks like she has also confirmed the title for the sequel with Wonder Woman 1984.

This coincided with a post from Gal Gadot who also seemingly revealed the title of the film. It shows Diana Prince looking at a number of 1980s television screens.

What do you think of Steve Trevor returning? Do you like the title of the movie? How do you think Steve Trevor’s return will be explained?
