Report: Avengers: Endgame Dominates China Box Office with $107 Million+ Opening Day
Avengers: Endgame reportedly dominated the Chinese box office on its opening day bringing in over $107 million.
Deadline reports that Avengers: Endgame’s midnight showings on Tuesday brought in $28.2 million. The movie would go on to earn over $79 million Wednesday for an opening day total of $107.2 million.
They indicate this is a brand new record for opening day overtaking Monster Hunt 2, the previous crown holder, that brought in over $81.3 million.
Previous reporting from The South China Morning Post indicated Avengers: Endgame presales had sold around $36.8 million for the midnight showing, about $10 million more than what Deadline reports.
Deadline reports the film’s demographic break down consists of 55% male and 45% female in the major Chinese cities. They also note that the overall gross estimates have increased to $533 million, it had previously been projected by Huatei Securities analyst Xu Juan to bring in over $446.9 million. If Endgame does hit these new projections it would “make it the highest-grossing Hollywood movie ever in China as well as the 4th biggest ever behind local pics Wolf Warrior 2, The Wandering Earth and Operation Red Sea.”
Endgame also opened up in Korea, where it brought in $8.39 million on its first day. In France, Deadline indicates it had the “3rd best launch ever with over 48k admissions on 100 screens.”
Avengers: Endgame will hit North American theaters on April 25 with early showings and will be in wide release on Friday, April 26th.
What do you make of these Avengers: Endgame numbers from China? Does it bode well for a massive box office take here in North America as well?
