Report: Warner Bros. Chooses Robert Pattinson to Play Batman
Warner Bros. has reportedly chosen Twilight actor Robert Pattinson to play Batman in the upcoming Matt Reeves directed film.
An earlier report indicated the studio was weighing its options between Pattinson and X-Men actor Nicholas Hoult. In fact, they reportedly brought them both in for screen testing in the Batman suit.
Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. indicated Warner Bros. made the decision after Pattinson and Hoult were brought in for the screen tests yesterday.
Pattinson had previously been reported to take on the role of Batman earlier this month by Variety. However, a Warner Bros. spokesman indicated a deal had not been made with Pattinson. They told CNN, “We do not have a deal.”
As for what we can expect from Pattinson as Batman, it will more than likely be a very different Batman from what we’ve previously seen on the big screen.
Director Matt Reeves discussed his vision for the film back in January:
“It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in films. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
The film is rumored to feature both Catwoman and Penguin alongside half a dozen other villains.
Recent rumors indicate Vanessa Hudgens could play Catwoman with Josh Gad taking on the role of Penguin. Others rumored to appear in the film include Jason Clarke as Thomas Wayne, Keri Russell as Martha Wayne, Toby Kebbel as Scarecrow, and Theo Rossi as Bane.
The film is expected to start pre-production this summer and is currently slated to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
What do you make of Warner Bros. decision to cast Robert Pattinson as Batman? Do you approve of this decision? Are you in a wait and see mode? Or are you completely against it?
