A new rumor claims that, after years of the franchise’s mishandling under the direction of Disney, Star Wars creator George Lucas is set to bring his creative energies back to a galaxy far, far away.

According to reports by both YouTuber Overlord DVD and Disney news outlet InsideTheMagic.net, Lucas will soon attempt to wrest creative control over the franchise back from Kathleen Kennedy by bankrolling a brand new Star Wars trilogy.

While no details were provided regarding what his potential trilogy would entail, Lucas’ previous plans for a Star Wars sequel trilogy included “Darth Maul and Darth Talon as the villains; Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order from survivors of Order 66; Leia forming the New Republic, becoming the Chosen One.”

“Darth Maul trained a girl, Darth Talon, who was in the [Star Wars Legends] comic book as his apprentice,” explained Lucas in the foreword to the Star Wars Archives Episode I-III: 1999-2005.

Lucas expanded, “She was the new Darth Vader, and most of the action was with her. So these were the two main villains of the trilogy. Maul eventually becomes the godfather of crime in the universe because, as the Empire falls, he takes over.”

As for Leila, Lucas noted, “The movies are about how Leia – I mean, who else is going to be the leader? – is trying to build the Republic.”

“They still have the apparatus of the Republic but they have to get it under control from the gangsters,” he wrote. “That was the main story.”

Lucas continued, “It starts out a few years after Return of the Jedi and we establish pretty quickly that there’s this underworld, there are these offshoot stormtroopers who started their own planets, and that Luke is trying to restart the Jedi. He puts the word out, so out of 100,000 Jedi, maybe 50 or 100 are left.”

“The Jedi have to grow again from scratch, so Luke has to find two- and three-year-olds, and train them,” said Lucas. “It’ll be 20 years before you have a new generation of Jedi.”

According to Lucas, “By the end of the trilogy Luke would have rebuilt much of the Jedi, and we would have the renewal of the New Republic, with Leia, Senator Organa, becoming the Supreme Chancellor in charge of everything.”

“So she ended up being the Chosen One,” he concluded.

If Lucas does return, it would signal a significant shift in his feelings towards the franchise,

However, as noted by both Overlord DVD and InsideTheMagic.net, no one connected to either Disney or Lucasfilm has officially commented on Lucas’ return. As such, fans are encouraged to take this rumor with a sizable grain of salt.
