Rumor: Lovecraft Country Actor Jonathan Majors To Play Race-Swapped Kang the Conqueror In Ant-Man: 3
A new rumor claims that Lovecraft Country actor Jonathan Majors will play a race-swapped Kang the Conqueror in the next Ant-Man film.
The rumor comes from Deadline and writer Justin Kroll. Kroll reports “Jonathan Majors is now ready to make his mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way.”
Kroll goes on to write that “Majors has been tapped for one of the lead roles in the next Ant-Man movie opposite Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.”
As for what character he will play, Kroll states, “The studio had no comment, but sources close to the project say he is likely to play the super-villain Kang the Conqueror.”
He goes on to add, “Sources add that like with so many new characters in the MCU, there could be a twist with how the character is featured in future films, but as of now he is likely to be one of the main villains in the next installment in the franchise.”
While Majors can currently be seen in Lovecraft Country, he previously starred in The Last Black Man in San Francisco as Montgomery Allen and Da 5 Bloods as Allen. He’s also expected to play Nat Love in The Harder They Fall and Jesse Brown in Devotion.

Majors is just the latest actor to be rumored to be taking on the role of Kang the Conqueror. Previously, scooper Mikey Sutton detailed that Kang the Conqueror would be played by Owen Wilson in the upcoming Loki series on Disney Plus.
Sutton’s scoop first appeared on the YouTube channel Everything Always where they detailed, “According to Mikey Sutton’s several inside sources, the question has been answered. Wilson is Kang.”

Wilson’s mysterious character in Loki was also theorized to be Kang the Conqueror by fellow scooper Charles Murphy. However, Murphy did describe the theory as “the absolute longest of longshots.”
Murphy’s theory relied on the fact that Wilson was reported to have a contract that includes “a to be determined number of film appearances.” He also detailed that Marvel Studios was attempting to ensure that Wilson’s character was not revealed to fans or paparazzi when they film on location indicating the character’s outfit could reveal just who he is.

Aside from Wilson, there was also speculation that former Beast actor Kelsey Grammar could be up for the role of Kang the Conqueror. That speculation began after the Atlanta Filming Twitter account teased that an actor or actress that appeared in Fox’s X-Men and and the Must See Thursday lineup would be a villain in an upcoming Marvel Studios show.
If Majors does end up landing the role of Kang the Conqueror, it would be another race swap in an ever-growing list for Marvel Studios.
Kang the Conqueror, whose real name is Nathaniel Richards, was first created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and introduced as Kang in Avengers #8.
In that first issue, Kang reveals that he was originally born in the far future in the year 3,000. He then time traveled to the past where he took on the title of Pharaoh Rama-Tut.
This reveal in Avengers #8 references the events of Fantastic Four #19, where Pharaoh Rama-Tut reveals to the Fantastic Four that he is a time traveler from the year 3,000. Not only does it reveal him to be a time traveler from the year 3,000, but that he is a white man.

In Avengers #10 it would then be revealed that Kang is the descendant of Doctor Doom.
It would also reinforce that Kang is a white man as it shows him with blue eyes and white skin behind his blue mask.
What do you think of the casting decision? Do you think Majors will play Kang? What do you believe it will mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise going forward?
