‘Static Shock’ Movie Reportedly Still In Development, Comic Artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey Tells Fans To “Be Patient” and “Stop Speculating”

Warner Bros. Discovery is not seeing any end to its shakeups and woes since the merger or, more recently, this past summer when they took advantage of a tax loophole to save some money.

Part of the deal led them to scrap a host of film projects in mid-production, and they hit DC’s slate particularly hard. Batgirl was the most notorious victim but just one of many. A Wonder Twins movie was called off as well.

So were Madame X and a race-bent Constantine series produced by J.J. Abrams who has been trying to launch his Justice League Dark family of content at HBO Max for the last few years with no headway.

Abrams is bringing us a new Constantine film but it’s a sequel to the 2005 streetwise horror fantasy and he will have the help of the returning Keanu Reeves, Akiva Goldsman, and director Francis Lawrence.

The status of other movies is in question due to the chaos though there was good news on that front for Blue Beetle. We learned this week from the director and screenwriter that the picture is safe for now and WBD actually believes in it.

We haven’t heard much about another project in the same vein – that being Static Shock, the first of possibly several adaptations for the resurrected Milestone brand. At least it looked that way before all this.

Now that the playing field has shifted, Static could be forgotten or canceled along with the proposed revival in visual media of its line. Either way, it’s dead in the water.

Michael B. Jordan was producing the picture through his production company Outlier Society, but after DC FanDome in 2020, there haven’t been many updates until recently. However, they aren’t favorable.

As of April, Jordan declared the trajectory has “no real timelines” and “no real updates.” Effectively, everything has stalled. The actor could then bail at any time though it isn’t looking like he has his Val-Zod project to focus on either.

To be fair, that is only our speculation and someone has stood up above the crowd to condemn the speculating. Nikolas Draper-Ivey, artist and co-writer of Static: Shadows of Dakota, urges everybody not to listen to the media.

“Stop speculating about the Static movie,” he tweeted. “Don’t worry about those articles and be patient. I will not elaborate on this any further.”

He followed up with a “plain and simple” clip of Nick Offerman to remind us he knows more than we do.

So does that settle it? Are we hearing the last word on Static Shock? Can we safely say it’s still in development? We leave it to you to answer below.
