The Last Jedi Director Rian Johnson Debunks Rumor He Exited Planned Star Wars Trilogy
Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson took to Twitter to debunk a rumor that he had exited the announced Star Wars trilogy he would be masterminding.
Johnson set the record straight writing, “No it isn’t true, I’m still working on the trilogy.”
No it isn’t true, I’m still working on the trilogy. With all due respect to the movie bros, who I’m sure are lovely kind bros with good fraternal intentions.

Website Super Bro Movies originally pushed the rumor. ScreenRant reports that “multiple sources” told them that Johnson was no longer developing the Star Wars trilogy. They indicated that Johnson was the one to part ways with Star Wars in order for him to focus on his other projects like Knives Out.
Super Bro Movies has since deleted their original story from their website.
They would issue a statement regarding their reporting.
It reads:
“We want to take some time to apologize to anyone we may have offended or angered in our reporting tonight. Simply put, we got wind of a huge rumor and after reaching out to confirm with other journalists, we ran it, with the rumor being that RIan Johnson was no longer attached to his own Star Wars Trilogy. This was in no way meant to imply any sort of hostility or negativity towards Mr. Johnson or his recent film, The Last Jedi, as even many members of our team are big fans of the film (myself included) and were disappointed at the possibility of the news. As we are still a young and growing site, we will learn this lesson in journalism and continue to work on our engagement with our community and even filmmakers themselves. We also want to apologize to Rian Johnson and offer nothing but support and excitement for his future films! – Peter Batkins EIC SuperBroMovies”
Here is our official statement on the situation that occurred tonight. We would like to clear the air and wish our sincere apologies to @rianjohnson pic.twitter.com/kDJFxrKlZA

Johnson would respond with “no harm no foul at all guys, thanks.” He would go on to say, “the rumor game makes fandom funner.”
No harm no foul at all guys, thanks. I think the rumor game makes fandom funner. 👊🏻

Johnson’s The Last Jedi divided Star Wars fans with the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes sitting at a rotten 45%. Johnson would find himself at the center of much of the controversy. He would point to a study surrounding the negative reaction to The Last Jedi as the work of “political trolling, some of it likely form Russia.” Johnson would also label criticism of The Last Jedi as “violent harassment campaigns.” He would also attack Star Wars fans describing them as “manbabies.”
As for what exactly will be in Johnson’s new trilogy he spoke to Mashable back in December of 2017 to give us a clue, “To me what’s really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?” Johnson would add, “For me the possibility in a new story told over three movies, go anywhere, do anything, sky’s the limit, in Star Wars? That’s so exciting.”
Were you hoping this rumor was true? What do you think Johnson’s new trilogy will explore?
