Warner Bros. Continues to Expand its DC Cinematic Universe with New Nightwing Movie!
On the same day Warner Bros. announced its new director for Batman, they also announced a whole different project with the second most notable member of the Batman family, Nightwing.
And they already have their eyes on director Chris McKay, who recently helmed The Lego Batman Movie. The Hollywood Reporter notes Warner Bros. and McKay are in negotiations to lock in a deal. Bill Dubuque of The Accountant fame is already on board writing the script.
Nightwing or Dick Grayson was the original Robin before he became Nightwing and carved his own path in Gotham and around the world outside of Batman’s shadow. He was part of the acrobat family the Flying Graysons until they were murdered whereupon he became a ward to Bruce Wayne.
The character was created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and illustrator Jerry Robinson and made his first appearance in Detective Comics #38 in 1940.
The character has had multiple evolutions especially since the 1980s when he donned the Nightwing persona He’s lead the Teen Titans and more recently he even shed the Nightwing persona. He became Agent 37 for the nefarious spy organization, Spyral.
This new Nightwing centric movie joins DC’s growing list of upcoming films including Gotham City Sirens, The Batman, a Suicide Squad sequel, a potential Black Adam film, a Shazam! film, a Flash film, a Cyborg film, and the upcoming Wonder Woman and Aquaman solo films and lest we not forgot Justice League.
