Warner Bros. Makes It Official – Patty Jenkins Returns To Direct Wonder Woman Sequel
Patty Jenkins will officially return to direct the Wonder Woman sequel.
After a lengthy negotiation process, Patty Jenkins and Warner Bros. have finally come to terms. Not only will Jenkins direct the next Wonder Woman installment, but she will also co-write and produce. DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns will co-write the film with Jenkins.
The Hollywood Reporter indicates Jenkins’ contract includes “directing and writing fees in the high seven figures (think somewhere in the $7 million to $9 million range) on Wonder Woman 2 but, more significantly, will have a considerable backend.”
If these numbers are anywhere close to the truth, the deal makes Jenkins the highest-paid female filmmaker in history.
Jenkins earned $1 million for her work on Wonder Woman after she came in to replace Michelle McLaren. McLaren left the project over creative differences.
Wonder Woman earned $410.5 million domestically and $405.8 million in foreign markets for a total worldwide gross of $816.3 million. The film had an opening domestic weekend of $103.2 million.
Jenkins will reunite with Gal Gadot who is already attached to star in the sequel. Warner Bros. set a release date of December 13, 2019 for the Wonder Woman sequel.
