DC’s Titans Series Casts Hawk and Dove!
DC’s upcoming Titans series cast both Hawk and Dove. Hawk will be played by Alan Ritchson while Minka Kelly will take on the role of Dove.
Deadline reports Ritchson will take on the role of Hank Hall while Kelly will be Dawn Granger.
In the comics, Hawk and Dove were originally brothers Hank and Don Hall. The two received superpowers from T’Charr a Lord of Chaos and Terataya a Lord of Order who had fallen in love and wanted to prove to their fellow Lords that Order and Chaos could work together. They granted Hank and Don Hall magic abilities triggered by saying a word. For Hank Hall that word was “hawk.”
The two characters were created by Steve Ditko and Steve Skeates and first appeared in Showcase #75.
Following the death of Don Hall, Hank Hall happened upon Dawn Granger who had been impersonating his dead brother. Hank initially attacked her, but soon discovered she was Don’s replacement and they formed an alliance. Dawn Granger first appeared in Amazing World of DC Comics #11. She was created by Karl and Barbara Kesel and Rob Liefeld. While Hank channels the ability of Hawk, Dawn’s power manifests as the avatar of peace and grants her increased intelligence, compassion, and strength. She also gains the ability to fly and sense danger.
In the television show it appears Hawk and Dove will be a romantic crime-fighting couple. Like in the comics, Hawk will be the “aggressive, offensive bruiser” while Dove is “strategic, defensive, and lithe.”
Both Hawk and Dove will be recurring members of the Titans and Deadline reports they have the the “option to become regulars in Season 2.” There is also the possibility of a Hawk and Dove spinoff series led by Ritchson and Kelly.
Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly join Brenton Thwaites who will be Dick Grayson, Teagan Croft as Raven, and Anna Diop as Starfire.
Ritchson most notably worked on the television show Blood Drive as Arthur Bailey, but he might be better known as Raphael in the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. Interestingly enough he’s no stranger to DC Comics characters. He also played Aquaman on Smallville from 2005 to 2010. He also gave voice to Aquaman in Justice League: The New Frontier.
Minka Kelly is known for her role as Lyla Garrity on Friday Night Lights. She also played Detective Valerie Stahl in Almost Human. You might also recognize her from Parenthood where she played Gaby.
Titans comes from the minds of Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros. It will be part of DC Entertainments direct-to-consumer digital streaming service.
The Titans are described as a “group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire, Raven, and others.”
