Croft is the first casting announcement for the upcoming television show from Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schecter and Warner Bros. TV.
Berlanti is the genius behind DC’s current lineup on The CW including Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He will share writing duties with Goldsman, who is also working on CBS’ upcoming Star Trek: Discovery, and DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns, who not only ushered in DC’s Rebirth line of comics, but is also taking a much more hands-on approach with the DC Extended Universe.
The show is expected to follow “a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe.” It is being described as an “action-adventure” series.
Croft’s character Raven is “described as the daughter of a demon, is a powerful empath who must keep her emotions in check or risk unleashing her demonic side.”
Raven is expected to be joined by other Titans, Dick Grayson, Starfire, and others.
With Croft’s age being only 13, it is likely the story will be more focused on DC’s Teen Titans rather than the Titans.
The Teen Titans are no stranger to television. A loose adaptation of Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s New Teen Titans comic book series debuted as Teen Titans on Cartoon Network back in 2003. That show followed Robin, Terra, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, and Cyborg.
Given the description of Raven, it is highly likely her demon father Trigon will be a primary antagonist for the team.
Titans is expected to debut on the upcoming DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service. It will join the upcoming animated project, Young Justice Outsiders. Look for it in 2018!
